Porsche 930

First post and first question of many I'm sure.

Why do some 930s have vented rear fenders (for brake cooling I assume) and some seem solid or have a "chip guard"? Is the vented fender only on certain years?

Edit: I may have found my own answer. It seems the vented rear fenders are more common on Slantnose 930s but I have seen a few pics with the standard version 930s with vented fenders.

The bronze color 930 above is an '84 special ordered from the factory with "delete slantnose".

Can anybody ID the year of this 911/930? Possibly 91 from the looks of the bumper?

Thanks in advance...

Welcome

Welcome Lefty...you don't want much do you

If you want a 5 speed just cuz it's there you may want to reconsider cuz there are a lot of guys out there that say a 4 speed is all you need and that opens up your window to a greater chance of finding a nice 930 and getting it done at a great price in the current depressed mkt. Also, Red is the fastest color ask me how I know

Here's a clean looking '86 no affiliation:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/621720-1986-porsche-911-turbo-impeccable-condition-only-68k-miles.html

Good luck with your search!

Thanks Captain,

I'm going to take my time and learm all I can before my purchase. I'll try not to limit myself to much and keep an open mind (and wallet!). I'm leaning toward the '89-'91 range liking the front bumper styling a little more on the early '90s but that isn't going to be a deciding factor when the right one speaks to me. I'll know her when I see her.

Regarding the vents, on a slant one houses an oil cooler. This could also be had on a non slant car by ordering the 930s with slant nose delete. Beware, many are aftermarket fakes, the real ones actually have wooden slats.
Good hunting!

930 purchase: what year?

IMO, to avoid the "chain tensioner" problems in the earlier cars, I opted for a post SC-era car (1985 or newer). Mine is 1985 (Euro car).
That's just my opinion, and I definitely do not claim to be expert...
Be forewarn though, everything with the 930 is more expensive as compared to the normal aspirated 911 Carrera... My friend has a "regular" 911 of same year and it's much cheaper to maintain and run. But boy, what a difference in the driving feel...
I also like the cars before 1992 (964 with the G50 transmission), although my mechanic tells me they are more expensive to fix... and mine is already expensive enough to fix
