944 Turbo S won't start

944 Turbo S won't start
I own a 1988 944 Turbo S with 7,000 miles that has been in storage. The last time started was 3 months ago with no problems. Went to start a few days ago and found the battery dead and jumped to start. Vehicle starter turns over but will not start. Replaced battery, jumpered the DME relay and still no spark. The tach bounces while trying to start so I assume the crank sensor is OK. Can you damage the ECU while jumping the battery? Can anyone suggest the next step. Appreciate the help.

Your 951 won't start
The Bosch CAM Position sensor connectors are notoious for your problem. They look bullet proof on the outside but the allow oxidation to build up on the contacts.
Simply, with a flathead screwdriver, pop the retainer clip up, dis-engage and re-engage the connectors several times. Put the retainer clip back in place, reseat the connectors and , odds are, your car will start. If the CAM Sensor is not reading, you will get NO SPARK.

I have seen people fry DME's when accidentally hooking up jumper cables backwards. But again, typically the tach will not bounce. Make sure your timing belt is still in one piece. Then start at the basics. Check for fuel at the rail, check for spark at the plugs and then at the coil if none at the plugs.

Same but different...
Deployed son's 944s sitting in garage but won't turn over. Charged battery(maintained), tried other batteries and all it does is draw them down and won't turn over, or barley does so for one second and then loses charge in the batteries.
I'm guessing starter but would like to know how to test for it....and then how to get it out of the garage to get it fixed!
