1990 C4 Airbags...replace them???

Howdy folks...this'll be my first post on 6speedonline.

I've recently acquired a 1990 C4 from my father and am loving the hell out of it! I drove it from Florida, through New England, then out to California, putting 6000 miles on a 20 year old Porsche! Needless to say, I'm hooked after my trip.

Anyways, I was wondering if any of you folks out there ended up replacing your airbags on the older cars...I'm under the impression that they have a half-life, so to speak, and should be replaced after 15 years.

Any thoughts?

Depends on application to be honest. If you are driving this car on the street, I would consider it. Is it necessary to swap- that I cannot comment on, but it is one of those things that is up to you if you feel comfortable that the bag will work if/when needed.

If it is going to be a track car, I would just pull it out, but that does not appear to be the case in your situation

Thanks for the reply...I was beginning to wonder if I'd asked a goober question.

My biggest concern was for the bag suddenly deploying on its own since it's 20 years old. I've never heard of such a thing happening but wanted to put the query out there in case there was a strong opinion out there.

Not a goober question at all. I think there will be more owners in this spot as the years go on as some of 911's with air bags become older.

My concern would be the opposite actually, I would be concerned of the bag not going off when it needs to. My guess is that these bags don't come cheap so I would do some asking around before you buy.
