How long to make a car?
My dealer mentioned it is approximately 4 weeks from the build start date. I have a March build. However they do build starts every 10 days through the month. So once you find out which 10th day your car falls into then figure ~ 30 days from then. But as usual regardless of this and that when the dealer calls me and says my car is at the dealer then thats the day I have patiently wait for. Plus they will need to prep and detail it. I won't go in until its gleaming and inside waiting for me to drive it off.
I'm not sure if the Turbo's are any different from the C2/4S's.. But assuming it's a similar order to build process timming it seems to depend on the dealer allocation...
The way it was explained to me by my dealer was that generally the dealer takes one of his allocation spots and substituded it with your specific order... so that adds a bit of variablity... Then there is the time of year, so that you get extra delays if your build straddles august when the shut down for retooling.. or christmas season..
For me I got a confirmation on my order from the dealer with my build configuration (it was a C2S) on october 3rd and the car got loaded on a container Dec 19th.... (guessing it was completed around beginning of dec) so my deposit to build completion was probably about 60 or 70 days... But I don't know the exact lock date as it came and went with out me knowing about it..
And it is expected into San Diego on 10th of Jan. and another 5 to 10 days to get it up to my dealer in Riverside..
So my timing looked like this:
Time from Order confirmation by dealer to Build complete.... ~55 days...
Time from Completion to Loading on container = 10 days..
Time across atlantic to Sandiego via Panama Canal = 21 days..
Time from arrival at port to Dealer = ~ 5 days...
For me the it was (will be) about 3 1/2 months total.. Maybe if you are going into the east coast you might shave a little time on the container ship...
This is pretty typical of what everyone I know has experienced.. The build time is one thing... But it's the time from order to build and then the shipping that seems to be more significant than anything...
That said, I've go no experience with Turbo's but I'm guessing is no better and if anythign would be worse since the volume is lower... But that's just a guess..
I suspect it was probably completed around early december so assuming
I don't know the exact date it got locked...

That is highly unlikely.... if by on-site you mean to the dealer in 51 days. But maybe that was intended to imply on-site from the delivery center in Germany..
Shipping alone from factory to northern Germany and actually getting on the container ship (mine went through Hamburg) is probably about 10 days.. My shipping info shows from the time it was loaded on the container to the container actually departing about 4 days..
Then depending on the port you are going (in my case San Diego) that's about 3 weeks.... Maybe 5 days shorter to the east cost..
So for me the shipping time was probably 30 days... so I have a very hard time believing 51 days.. as that would leave 21 days for the build assuming they started the same day it locked...
Maybe if you took delivery from the factory.. 51 days.. That I would think is possible..
For me from order confirmation (not lock, I don't know that date) to delivery will be just shy of 4 months... Which based on everyone I've talked to who has ordered is pretty typical.. Somewhere between 3 and 4 months... unless there is something else special. For example some of the Porsche Exclusive options I've been told add to the build time... And custom interior/leather they quoted me could take an extra 3 to 6 months..
That said, I'm talking C2/4's and C2/4S's.. It's possible that a Turbo might be different... But it would seem if anything the build would be longer because of the lower volume.. But I don't know that, just guessing..
