Need porsche advice....

I recently sold my 993 and want something faster. Initially my gut was going for a 996 twin turbo but after some thought i'm considering two other cars. First is the 997 turbo, for an extra 15k it sure does have a lot more spunk and also the new Boxster S.

Im a gear head, I like boost, I've turbo charged a lot of cars and would probably go FI with the boxster if I got one. Can anyone give me an idea of what's going to be the most fun, reliable and why.

Thanks!!!

Budget is a key factor determining what you can get in to. I am selling my PRISTINE 600hp 02 996 turbo if you decide to go that route.

We've had a 981 Boxster S for a year now and it is a great car. Being N/A, it makes beautiful sounds and runs great. Excellent handling and quite quick. In terms of reliability, hard to go wrong with a newer car (and we've had zero issues).

Good luck-

I think u have to give strong consideration to the 997.1tt. The engine is highly regarded w enthusiasts and you can't beat its reliability!

Spending some time reading the threads here at 6s will really get you up to speed on this subject.

I can't imagine the Boxster even figuring in this equation. It's rep is a chick car....my wife has one. Absolutely no comparison w a monster 997tt!

Good luck and have fun w your search.

I have a 997 Turbo and a Boxster S . The modified Turbo is much faster but I have more fun driving the Boxster S . The Boxster BTW is not slow . it's nearly as fast as a base 911 but more impressive than speed is how balanced the car is . Add to this the car has a real fun factor . As a convertible the door sills are the ideal height and cabin the perfect size to create a breeze . With the top up it is very coupe like in quietness .

The 997 Turbo is more like a sledgehammer . It's comfortable and spacious but feels more like a passenger car than a go cart .

Both cars are great but they are different .

My vote goes to the Boxster S for the reasons listed above , plus having new car warranty and modern technology . A 997 turbo is going to be an older car and if it's a 997.1 will have no wararnty and would be expensive to modify at this late stage .

One more point .. the newer Porsches in general come very well equipped in stock form . There is less need to modify them .

I never knew a car had a gender assignment . The new Boxster and Cayman are the real deal . The huge jump in refinement over the previous generation created an completely different type of vehicle . It is better handling, more spacious, faster, and designed to an improved level.

The 997 was a fantastic traditional 911 . The 991 on the other hand is a great car but is a tremendous departure from the traditional roots found in the decades of 911 production . In fact Gt2 , Gt3, and Gt3 RS cars have reflected in resale value how much value these older 911 cars have retained. Mention 991 Gt3 and it almost makes one weep to think of how such a great former car turned into a such a mess .

Perhaps it's the fact that the 997 was so good that it was a tough act to follow combined with the former gen Boxster was so much less than the new one that makes the comparision most interesting to me .

Get a 981 S now and wait until the end of the year for the TPC turbo kit. My Cayman, with the proven +150 whp, is a lot of fun.
