Picked up a 2014 TTS
Picked up a 2014 TTS
After test driving the TTS, I traded my R8 V10 Plus in. As much as I loved the Audi and that incredible V10 wail, the 991 TTS is a step above. But, of course it should be since the Audi is at the end of its first generation and the Porsche Turbo S is a new car.
I fell in love with the color combination of the my TTS - anthracite brown with the black/luxor beige two tone leather. The anthracite brown is one of those colors that really changes with the ambient light, but in all cases, the brown is a very subtle undertone. I'll see if I can get pictures that does it justice.
Car has the goodies such as Burm. radio etc. I have owned a number of 911 Turbo's through the years and never really loved them - preferred the C2S to the turbos, but the 991 turbo seems to be a real improvement over the 996 and 997 turbos. I think it has alot to do with the rear wheel steering and PDCC - the car feels alot "smaller" in the corners than my 997 turbo felt. Probably also due to the engine being a few inches further from the rear. And glad they figured out how to get some acceptable sound out of the turbo flat 6 without having to spend another 5K+ on an exhaust.
Here's a comparison between the V10+ and the TTS
In summary, the overall performance envelope of the TTS is greater than the R8 and the sophistication of the Porsche is a reflection of the fact that it is a newer car. In early 2016, when the next gen. R8 hits the U.S., I may not be able to resist it. The R8 is a fabulous car - the 991TT-S is just a little more fabulous.

Here's a comparison between the V10+ and the TTS
- acceleration - Porsche feels somewhat quicker, but I'm still in break-in period so haven't taken above 4500 RPM. Not much turbo lag.
- handling - Porsche feels far more willing to turn in and provides more confidence in fast cornering
- steering feel - Audi has hydraulic steering and I prefer it slightly over the Porsche
- brakes - both have ceramics, both are amazing, but the Porsche brakes are far less "grabby"
- engine sounds - Porsche is OK, but Audi is inspiring
- interior/electronics - Porsche is significantly better
- "look at me" quotient - Audi has it over the Porsche but after owning 3 R8s, I look forward to the anonymity. I've "starred" in enough videos taken by kids in slammed hondas riding on my ***.

Thanks for the info. Could you comment on the deal you were able to negotiate. I have a 2012 R8 V10 Rtronic. I am considering trading for a TTS. Thinking about a leftover 2014 if I can negotiate a great deal.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Roughly 10% (combination of excellent trade-in price and reduction from MSRP off the 2014 Porsche).
I have a hard time believing there is substantial "trunk money" (the $20K someone here mentioned) on the 2014 Porsches (or at least I didn't see it). Since you own a 2012 R8, I'm sure you remember that Audi provided $10K in trunk money to get rid of the 2012's since the 2014's had the refreshed body and s-tronic transmission, which were considered substantial improvements to the car and froze the leftover 2012 R8 sales (there was no 2013 model year in the U.S.). But that isn't the case with the 2014 991TT, since the 2014 and 2015 991TT are essentially identical.
After discussions with 3 dealers, I found leftover 2014 991TTS to be at the low 170's and 2015 at the low 180's (both dependent on level of MSRP and options).

Alan, I have been reached out to a few dealers to inquire about a 14 TT and none have heard of the trunk money either. I have got two to suggest 10% off though.
Also congratulations on the new car. Post a few pictures when you have a moment.

Congrats on the TTS!! Bring it out so we all can see. If I can find you, I'll stop buy and say hello.

Great review and comparo. I had a regular V10 R8 w/ stasis flash and exhaust and I concur w/ your comparison completely. Great looking and sounding car w/ nice handling/ride and wonderfully linear engine response. My biggest gripe was the weight, the R8 is heavy, the next gen will hopefully be significantly lighter.

All part of the greater refinement and finesse of the Turbo S compared to the aging R8.

FWIW I called one of my dealer owner contacts and confirmed no trunk money on the 2014's.
I have a 2012 R8 V10 and indeed took advantage of the factory push there getting a 175k car msrp for 138k back at the start of 2013.
Me too, got my previous car, R8 V10 spyder with MT for 143K -sticker was around 190K. That was the automotive pricing "perfect storm". A very rare event, indeed.
Thank you. Since this is roughly my 16th Porsche, it isn't so much seeing the light - it's that the 991 Turbo S is the first recent Porsche that does more for me than the first generation V10R8. It's amazing how well Audi hit the mark with the R8 on its first attempt. Hope they can continue that success with version 2.0 next year. Always nice to have choices and competition.

Smart move! Congrats on your beautiful new car and enjoy in good health! You won't see too many Anthracites on the road ... very cool.
