Former 997.2 Turbo S 911 Cab owner looking to come back to 991 911 Turbo S Coupe

Hi Everyone,
I have been away from the Porsche world since 2012 when I sold my loaded 2012 997.2 911 Turbo S Cab for a Ferrari 430 Spider 6MT. At the time, I really missed rowing through the gears (having come from Vipers and muscle cars) and felt the Turbo S with PDK was almost too sterile and lacked the visceral aspect of the driving experience. Honestly, this was mostly in my head and I should have given the car more time to grow on me. The car was quick as hell and awesome, but I was new to flappy paddle driving and I wasn't sure that it was for me. I have since owned quite a few cars including a 2013 458 Italia that I have decided to keep. I have gotten over my aversion to driving a flappy paddle gearbox.

Fast forward, I am thinking about returning to the Porsche world with a 2014 or 2015 991 Turbo S 911 Coupe and would like to hear from past 997 owners and present 991 owners as to the differences between the cars and also MUST HAVE OPTIONS. Putting a Porsche order together can be nerve-racking with all of those options. Which seats are a must have on a Turbo S? My previous Turbo S had the heated and cooled seats, but I can't remember if they were 4-way adjustable or the 18-way? Please help. Thank you, in advance.

Lot's of good deals on low mileage '14s out there. You should look at those first because you will probably find that you like one and can get it now with someone else having taken the massive depreciation hit already.

For example.

What are the "MUST HAVE" options on a Turbo S Coupe?

My 991 turboS is much better than the 997 turbos that I owned, both coupe and cab that I had. The turboS come with every performance option you can get. The only option you might want to add is the Burmeister stereo that I had on a Panamera turbo. My turboS didn't come with it but I don't miss it. You will love the turboS!

Get the glass sunroof and the premium package with seat ventilation, park assist/camera and entry and drive. The radio might be worth it to you. The 18-way seats are standard.

Glass sunroof

Burmester if sound system matters to you.

Consider whether you really want the standard CL wheels or opt for the 5 lug wheels. Turbo S wheels look great but CL wheels come with other issues since you need special tools and maintenance.

Everything else is a matter of taste.

What is the story with the Aerokit Turbo? What exactly is it? Is it a must have option?
What about Power Steering Plus?

I would wait (unless you are in a big hurry) for the .2 version. It's basicly a refresh but gets rid of the ugly oblong LED DRLs and I am sure they plan on adding some more HP to the car as well. Should be out in 2015 as a 2016.

The previous posters have listed the desirable options. Coming back to Porsche after owning a 997.1 TT I am very pleased with the 991. I did not have the PCCBs on the 997 and now I'm ha I have them I couldn't live without them. The PDK grows on you and it is amazingly fast, much quicker to 60, 100 mph then my MT 997 TT. I have the Brunmeister (sp) stereo and although not a fan of engine noise distraction in P Cars, I like the sound of the stereo.

After a 3 year departure from Porsche I am a believer in, There is no substitute.

Some really great deals to be had on leftover 14 Turbo S. I was originally looking at a turbo and there are a lot more S available. Been offered over 12% off multiple 190K cars. a NEW S can be had for 166-168K.

Michael_S,
Thank you for your reply. Where should I be looking because I don't see a lot of Turbo S cars out there.
I would love to find the dark blue metallic loaded up with black seats (heated and ventilated) and any other option out there. If you have any leads, please let me know. I am ready to buy!!!

Must Haves...

Here it goes for the Turbo S... since you are a 458 owner price is not an option!

Burmester (the best sound system period)
Premium Package Plus (for resale-- keyless start, heated/cooled seats, reverse camera & proximity monitors)
Sunroof in glass (because your 458 won't have it and previous 911s don't)
Smoking Package (finishes the center console cubby nicely with a lid)

Everything else with the exception of the aerokit and power-steering plus is a matter of aesthetics .

Are you a 5-lug or CL guy?
Cold/rainy climate? Rear windshield wiper

Cheers
