Venting - New Turbo S Cab delayed 2 months
Venting - New Turbo S Cab delayed 2 months
In December I placed an order for a Turbo S Cab. It took until early February to get an allocation and the car was supposed to be built mid March & be delivered mid April. Today I received a call from my dealer to say the car was delayed and I would not see the car until the end of June. I told them I would not accept the car unless it was a 2016. I don't think they are happy about that but I've purchased over 20 Porsches from them since my first in 1980 so they treat me very well. Also with the impending 991.2 probably arriving as a '16, I'd probably be upset getting the '15 with the update arriving a few months later. The downside is the '16 will probably arrive just before winter and be stored until spring. Means we lose almost a year of driving enjoyment. What started in December of 2014 won't become driving enjoyment until April of 2016. Oh well, it's not like we don't have nice cars to drive.
What would you do. Take the '15 or wait for the '16?

If you are custom ordering and paying the money with a wait time until atleast June this is a no brainier. Wait for more information on the 991.2 and take the 2016 closer to the end of the year. Even if the updates are minor I would want the newest PCM, steering wheel, increased power etc.
I'm totally happy with my 14 TT but we differ in that I bought mine off the lot and wasn't as specific as your build. I also knew an update was coming but will have already been driving my car for over a year by the time the update comes out.

This. I had to wait two months to get my TTS back from it's repairs due to running over road debris. I have only been able to drive it about three or four times in the last two weeks because the weather is so lousy here. Wet and cold. I am not going to take it out much until the paint on the front lip cures and they replace the bra which is still two weeks off. I have been driving the CTTS instead and my wife loves the RR so it's working out OK. Looks to me like you have even more choices, lucky guy you are!
I put the sports cars away in November and don't bring out until some heavy spring rains to wash all the salt and anti-skid they put on the roads here.

Heh, heh, no thanks. Crummy as this is, your's is much worse. But I am whining because in that two months we had some really nice driving days which I missed out on and I missed a good track event in January.
I ordered my '15 TTS on April 15, 2014and it rolled off the production line in late June, the 28th as I recall. I took delivery on July 15, although it was at the dealer on the 12th. And it was delayed at sea by a freak summer storm in the North Atlantic, otherwise it would have been in a few days earlier. '15 allocations were available in early April, I believe, although one dealer was insistent that I could not get a '15 until at least Oct/Nov.
I would insist on a '16 from your dealer if I were you and my bet is that you will not have to wait until fall to take delivery. Ask them when they get their first '16 allocation. I got the first '15 at my dealer last year and I had not bought a Porsche from them in ten years, although did buy several Audis. There were no changes to the '15 aside from option packages and color choices, but the '16 might have required some production line conversion if the changes we keep reading about are effective for '16's. Even then, it is hard to believe that Porsche will delay production for long. Maybe I just got lucky, but I doubt it. Just press the dealer or go to another one.

I would think that we would see the 2016 cars begin production in June or July of this year. However, with the amount of exclusive options he put on his car, even if we can get him a July production, it will likely get bumped out 4-8 weeks to actually be built in August or September, meaning it would get to the dealer somewhere between late September to early November.
Yes, the exclusive options may take longer to produce, but 4-8 weeks?. Last summer most deliveries were running 2-4 weeks ahead of the ETA on build sheets. Now we hear that there were quite a few TTS's built and that the market is flooded with them. Point is that if they were being built ahead of ETA's the production capacity was apparently ample. My car only had a few exclusive options so maybe it flew off the line, but given the efficiency of the process a 4-8 week delay for stitched pieces seems like a long time to me. I'd still go for a '16.
