Gents - great forum! I've got a '14 Panny Turbo with Fabspeed DPs and GIAC tune. My guess is that the beast is pushing about 600 HP at the crank. I have aspirations to swap my Panny for a '16 991 Turbo S. However, I just saw the new McLaren 570s. It looks like this will be squarely priced at the 911 Turbo S market!
Would love to get some thoughts on what folks who are driving 991 Turbo's think about McLarens and the thought of a 570s?
When viewing the 570 in person, I was pleased to see more competition for the Porsche turbo. I told the McClaren rep, trying to convince why would trade in a TTS for a 570.
Its not a match for me, 'cause of: scissor doors (impractical), not practical as daily driver, CF tub is no value to me, limited dealer network, first year production, visibility. Fit and finish is better than a Ferrari, but still not up to Porsche standards. In fairness, really drive one for a more solid comparison. That said, I've driven the 12C's, it was very impressive, but too much in your face for regular driving. That said, the 570 looks to be a better track car than the turbo.
Thanks! That's a very helpful perspective. The narrative from Mclaren appears to be something that's more a kin to a daily driver. I'm not sure that I believe them, but the problem will be that it will be unlikely that I can drive one before the end of the year while I could probably get a Oct allocation for the '16 911 turbo s!
I'm just not that enamored of the design of the McClaren. When I park my TTS in a lot, I actually find myself looking back at it over my shoulder because I like the design so much.
The design, quality, performance, 50 year heritage of the 911, and the 84 year heritage of Porsche are a huge draw for me as well.
Honestly I would never buy a McLaren new. The depreciation on them is breathtaking. Used is a different matter. One with tons of depreciation taken into account in the price is another matter.
Independent of price, I am happy with the 991 TTS and would not get rid of it for a 570. It is an incredible daily driver with killer power and acceleration all in one package.
