Too Much Power For Pirelli
I found a place that has the rear PSS's in OEM sizes in stock -- SimpleTire.com. They are a bit more expensive than Tirerack in price and shipping but at least they have them! I ordered my fronts from Tirerack. I was not happy with the Pirellis -- rough ride and not much grip. My Michelin Pilot Alpins were handling the power better than the P Zeros which I could not believe.
I really want to try MPSS tires, but I keep picking up nails in my P-Zeros and getting them replaced under my wheel/tire warranty. Got two new rears. Just need nails in the fronts for a completely new set!
Time to run over more nails. LOL
After doing my last mods(plenum, diverter valves, bmc air filter) when I launch my car I'm losing traction on my oem pirelli's. Traction control light comes on and I can feel the back end getting loose. So after I burn these rear tires up I want to switch to stickier tires. I'm thinking of either the Pilot SuperSports or the Pilot Sport Cup 2's. I am leaning towards the SC 2's as if I do any more mods, I think the SuperSports might not be sticky enough. BTW my car already has GIAC stage 2 and a Tubi exhaust. The combination of my last mods definitely added some more hp/tq to cause tire spin.
I had PSS in my 997.2 and were good for around 530 AWHP (GIAC tune only) 0-60 in 2.6-2.7 vBox pretty consistently and 0-100 in 6.2. When I went stage 2 with exhaust and intercoolers, I spun the PSS badly on launch. 0-60 I couldn't get better than 3.0. Then I went with R888 and traction got a lot better. Now at Stage 2+ maybe 650 wheel just clicked off 0-60 in 2.5 and 0-100 in 5.7. No chance that could be possible in PSS.
Further, that same day I achieved those acceleration times with the R888 I encountered a flash thunderstorms with flooding and drove at 70-80 mph could barely see through the torrential downpours but the tires worked incredibly well. No hydroplaning whatsoever.
R888 do get loud as they wear. But this isn't my daily.
I heard Toyo was now making the r888 in 20's so I wanted to share.
Yes the R888's are available in 20". I just switched to a 991 TT from a gt-r and a lot of big power gt-rs run the r888's.
Toyo shows a 285/35/20 and a 315/30/20 but no other sizes. That's a bit of a stretch from the 245 and 305 that we'd need for the Turbo. Hopefully they start offering more sizes soon!
I don't mind the Pilot Sport Cup 2....in the dry. But when we had our 991 GT3 with those tires, I got stuck in the rain a couple times and let's just say I was not too happy about it.
