What should I buy? I am keeping my 991tts so which one goes better with it?
What should I buy? I am keeping my 991tts so which one goes better with it?
These two are both available now and I am planning to pull the trigger here as soon as I know one of my land deals is complete. We have been working on evaluating offers the last month for a couple of our Wolfcamp sections which are crazy valuable right now so I will have some play money without affecting any other plans I have for the rest of the proceeds. The 488 is 335k while the 2016 Cali T is only 215k but it was 270kmsrp. It's a deal like my 991tts was two years ago. I think my favorite thing besides driving nice cars is shopping and buying them.
The knock I have heard on the 488 GTB is that it's too fast around town but then those people haven't driven my 991tts. I know the 488 rides low so some people don't drive them much and just use them at the track. I saw several in October at COTA but they were in the run group ahead of me so I didn't get to see them up close and personal at high speed. I know the 458 doesn't really do it against my Porsche so that one is out at this point. Help me decide.
I haven't owned a convertible since college but we have great weather for them here in Texas. I have heard the Cali is even OK at the track. I don't mind having a cruiser which it is and it can also be a DD. Another good thing about having both is that I can probably do the occassional driver insurance on both of them since my mileage would probably be less than 3k per year each. I only have 15k on my tts after two years. When I got it there were just over 3k on the ODO. The Cali has 3k while the 488 has only 600. The Cali is taking a big hit off the 270k msrp and is still this year's model so I think it's the best value. The 488 is really hot looking and of course I like fast cars. It's not as good a value so I am leaning Cali. I like the interior better on it but I think I like the 488 styling better.

William, I must say the same thing. Good deal and dropping the top will be quite nice especially up there on the right days. But the 488 just seems to be an animal that anyone who can should experience!
I guess one other question. I haven't driven the new 488 and know you have had the Ferrari bug for a while but have you considered a 650 spider? You get the speed of the 488, a track beast and the ability to drop the top. You also get a heavily depreciated car for 230k with 2k miles on it and there are several at McLaren of Dallas.

The Ferrari salesman had left me a voicemail and when I called back he was out so I said I wanted to talk 488 as well. I guess I could get the 488 and keep it a year and if I don't like it, then I can trade down for the Cali T. I don't need to sell another property to buy it, the Wolfcamp is probably the biggest bubble out there right now. The other big bubble (long bonds) is popping right now. People are chasing yield, I am getting 15 years of income right now. I am 60 so this is a great deal for me and I am holding my best section where we have the biggest share and the best operator who has a new well planned for January.
Tommy, I saw those McLarens but I am just not enamored of the car at all. The thing that turns me off on them is the gull wing door and the lack of amenities. The GTB has nice Daytona seats but the Cali has ventilated seats. If you haven't sat in the new 2016 Cali seats, you should. They are the best seats I have experienced in a sports car yet.
Long, probably your description made me reconsider, I am definitely not a retired old lady and I rarely see a Cali around here, it's mostly 458s and 430s.

I did not want to sound like w D**che but longboarder is right about the California. I mean both are Ferrari's and beautiful cars but the 488 is so much cooler.
William I kind of agree on the MClaren. i like them but I can see why folks are more emotionally attached to a comparable Ferrari.

So net is, he is calling me on Monday to let me know if the deal on the 488 went through. He told me he maybe could come off the ask a bit if the deal doesn't close but he says the Cali is a great drive according to one of his 458 owners and who has now ordered one. He says that they could get me an allocation at MSRP and it might only be 12 months if I get that Cali. To me that makes sense. The bigger issue for me is where to store the extra car. Petrol Lounge is full right now and my wife is refusing to park the Cayenne in the driveway. However, a $5000 Chanel purse might be the blackmail on that.
Man this is hard. I guess it's what you call a first world problem. The other thing about talking to Ferrari salesman is how they call the 991tts a mass produced sports car, ugh.
I guess I need CPIGUY to weigh in here as he already has both.
So what does everybody think about buying the Cali now and getting an allocation on the 488GTB built to my spec? Yes, no, pay the premium now assuming the car is still available. I also talked to Austin and they said they could store the Ferrari for me at about $300/mo.

you can spin just about anything into a dig with enough arrogance... I get that the turbo shares a lot with the normal 911, but with the 997 they made 25k total turbo models over 2005-13 so around 3k a year. Pulled this from an f-chat post:
Simple estimate - since 2010, let's say 7,000 cars shipped/year, so 35,000 total cars. 5% are Challenge cars (GT cars via Michelotto don't count), so subtract 175. Subtract the 599 GTO's (yes, I know some were 2009). so of the 34,000 cars in balance, 75% V8, 25% V12? toss in a few SP's and LaF's, let's say 25,000 V8's. IIRC there were more Cali's built than 458's? (Cali was their highest volume selling car)....which would mean 10-12K 458's?
We're not talking Pagani here.Anyhow, are you looking to fill a specific kind of void, or is this more a trophy to celebrate recent success?
It doesn't look like you're after more speed, and you want a great looking/sounding car and a ragtop might be nice. Does a 458 spider do it for you?

So they made around 2k 458s a year instead of 3k TT/TTS 911s? And more Californias. Yeah, super exclusive...

This says it's a 13 but the sales guy said it was a 14. I won't pay 299. I told him I would offer 275 if I was interested. Guess we will see if the owner wants to deal, he has a 488 on order.
