I agree, sell the bike.

Keep the 997 until you can really get what you want from the 991 line up. No sense taking a hit on your Targa, then a 991, then buy a 991 Targa, only to sell it again when the next variant comes out. Drive this car, when you need the Cayenne take it, but don't think for one second your wife will not leave the house for 6 months! She will go nuts.I have two little ones and your wife will need a break more then ever. When she does let her take the Targa and you use the Cayenne. Getting a baby in and out of a 2 door sports car is a PIA.

Shortly after I gave up flying a family friend was killed in his private single engine while taking his two young (6 & 7) boys camping. All three died - leaving the mother at home alone. I remember when she got the news. We went over there to comfort her and it was such a bad scene. My wife was closer to the mom than I was to the dad - so it was her friend. OMG it was bad. This was 10 years ago and she still lives on anti-depressants. Remarried but nothing cures losing your entire family in an instant.

So I don't' fly. Plus life insurance is impossible to get I don't need to - I have so many hobbies that I love, like golfing all over and sports cars.

I still say the bike should go - some may say "I have a bike and I'm still here" but the roads aren't the same as they were in 1990. I saw a lady doing something on her phone the other day (presumably texting) and she blew a red light at full speed and to this day has no idea she did it - never even looked up. My wife and I were in the left turn lane and we thought - "WOW!"

There are two types of riders: Those who have gone down hard and those who WILL. And trust me - I've owned 8 bikes - I totally get it.

(for the record the wife doesn't care what I do - these are my decisions)
I like your insight and trust me I know what you mean city driving/riding is crazy and frankly no fun. I had a biker land on the back of my porsche (face down) after an old lady forgot to wear her glasses, hit (ejected) him and then us - he claimed personal injury we did not. Its really unfortunate but it happens we will all go down one or another, lucky me I was on the track and who knows what may come next. I gave up playing men's league basketball after the punishing my body took every week, I could not risk days off work or away from the office to heal my twisted ankle or inflamed knee. Now its Tennis and Golf hehe...

Long story short I will mostly like sell the bike not more for safeties sake but just lack of usage and house garage space (have a storage spot in a condo). Riding is an art form and the less you do it the rustier you get - thats the last thing you want to be on a bike, rusty!. I figure come time I can dedicate a lot of hours to it in a week I will get back into it, maybe retirement age and cottage country if we ever get one. Not to add that I think I am done the naked bike thing, a windscreen fairing tourer will be next if ever

BTW the K1300R is a collectors bike and actually never even came to the US, only the 1200R did. I may use it as a trade in to BMW for a 4 door sedan and then get the 991 when the model I want comes out not 100% sure yet but that is the way I am leaning. Gives me time to get the 911 itch again.

You'll get killed on a trade-in.. Take some good photos of the bike and post it in the classified section at ADVRider.com. List the details and your selling price. It'll sell.
