Expecting our 1st :)...
Yes its great news, wife is 14 weeks pregnant (due in June 2012) and quite frankly I am very excited and worried for the world that half of me will be running around causing havoc! Good timing for the Cayenne (smile) a great all around vehicle.
Now to my part; the Targa lease is over in 11 months and I am confused as ever on what to do next. My original thought was to keep the 997 after the lease and add a 3rd (4 door 6MT get around car - 3er or M5) but the Targa has been hit hard twice (rear end & parking lot) and I am not loving the idea of dealing with that in future on issues/resale.
Wife says I can borrow the Cayenne when I need it and not getting the 991 is just going to make me unsettled. She reminds me that the 1st 6 months she won’t be leaving the house everyday so it’s an easy solution.
Bah I love these decisions:

Bah I love these decisions:

- Go with the ///M5 (6MT) and hope it holds me till the 991 Targa..?
- Great car, drove it in Spain but a bit price heavy to own both right away, may have to wait a while.
- I will miss everything about the 911 and they are just such different experiences, even at the dealership level.
- Sell the motorbike go with a 328/335 (6MT) and add a 991 Targa when it finally comes out.
- Would not have to wait as long to recover (328/335 would be half the price of the M5
- Figure out how to park 3 cars in the drive way - be a man!
- Forget this stupid idea of getting a 4 door, borrow the Cayenne when you need it! You need the 991!
- See what its like with baby, then decide; if anything extend the lease instead of buying out) of the 997 and add the M5.
- Not sure if Porsche would allow this and whether they would kill me for the accidents (not at faults

CONGRATS - Had my first and only 17 years ago. Love her dearly.
GET RID OF THE BIKE. You have a family to support, emotionally and financially. They don't need to be changing your diaper because you got hit by an idiot who was texting while driving.
I gave up flying when mine popped out - you can give up the bike

1+
You want to be in good physical shape specially when you are about to have a family to support.
20 more years to go! Congratulations and wish your family the best! Ben
Congrats! You are in for the longest--and shortest--year of your life!
Our pending 991 is going to be our '2nd family car'. :P Yes, I am a master of spin.
Time to start shopping for baby seats that will fit well it in, though. First-world problems...

I will go against the grain, I always do. As a dad of two boys now ages 13 & 10 I never gave up having at least one sportscar in the garage and at least 2 sport bikes. The wife drives the sedans or glorified station wagons ( SUV's). Do you really need to give up what makes you happy? I do not think so.
I hunt, shoot long range weapons, surf and race ( well the boys kart race and I do a few bike & kart races a year). My wife never asked me to give anything up and I would be surprised if she ever did.
Buy what makes you happy and when the child gets older he or she will think you are the king of chili town when you take them to school in a fun ride. My kids compete to see who gets taken to school on the back of the bike or shotgun in the sportscar.
And I'm a old fart, just turned 50. As a bike rider yourself you understand no cage compares to lifting the front tire on throttle or dragging a knee in the corners.

Sorry to thread hijack, but is this likely to be an issue? The 991 seems to have mor space than the 997 for this.

I would get the 991 and dump the 997 targa.
I have seen several images here and another forum of 991s being driven in Europe with car seats in the back. The longer wheelbase would work, they now have isofix systems, and you already are a Porsche lover. The only draw back to the 991 will be using a rear facing car set will force you to push the passenger seat forward should you need to carry the baby with you for the first year.
Good luck brother and welcome to the fold of fatherhood. You will love it! Have a 4 year old girl and 2 year old mini me.

I had bikes back in the 70s when my kids were born.. I'm still here (still riding, too..). Of course that was long before texting, cell phone chatter, and the myriad of other stupid **** that people seem to find time to do when they should be DRIVING!!!
Congrats on becoming a father.. your life, and your priorities are about to change.

Thanks so much for all the input here ultra appreciated. I purposely did not post this question on another forum because I feel like I always get straight-up unbias opinions from you guys. Really appreciate the congratulatories, I can't wait!
The bike thing is interesting, I mean the reality is that I have no good time to ride anymore only putting down 1500km all of last year - golf basically took over. The other truth is that we live in the city and to get to any good roads its about a 1 hour ride/drive minimum; so gearing up for a 15 minute stop and go to the office is not my ideal scenario.
Yes nothing compares to riding a bike but nothing compares to driving a 911 either. I keep going back and forth between selling and keeping it in storage. I have been in a crash (on the track) and also seen a few scary ones on the road but I am one paranoid rider thinking the worst of cagers around me. My last accident in the 997 was an older women bulldozing a riding that landed on the back of my car and then proceeding marry her CRV grill with our rear spoiler/diffuser - 14k of damage.
Anyhow like a very wise man once told me "when you don't know what to do and your back is not truly to the wall, do nothing; the decision will come to you"

I am amazed you gave up flying, I would love to learn how to fly. Ever get the itch to do it again?

If you leave them in the Cayenne till age 1 or 20lbs, depending on your local laws and recommendation of pediatrician, they will have to be in rear facing seats. This most likely means they will be in the standard carrier/car seat with a base (sooooo much easier for getting them in and out).
I had a 2007 E60 530i and 2008 E70 X5 4.8i when my daughter was born. Was really in either car as she went in the middle all the time. However, when my son was born, I had an E60 M5 that was soon traded to an E70 X5M because the passenger seat had to be up quite a bit to accommodate his rear facing seat when both kids were in the car. Was sometimes difficult to access the passenger seat as a result. This is the only issue with cars like the 991 because the center tunnel makes it impossible to place a rear facing seat in the middle.
If you can get away with using the Cayenne most of the time, you are good to go.
As an aside, we recently went through a similar situation as my wife actually wanted a "fun car". I have convinced her that we could use either the 991 or a Ferrari California because it has rear seats... Again, a good "first world" problem to have...
Congrats on the 1st baby. Boy or girl?

Always - I'd love to get a Mooney (new with glass c0ckpit) and fly all over with my golf clubs.
Shortly after I gave up flying a family friend was killed in his private single engine while taking his two young (6 & 7) boys camping. All three died - leaving the mother at home alone. I remember when she got the news. We went over there to comfort her and it was such a bad scene. My wife was closer to the mom than I was to the dad - so it was her friend. OMG it was bad. This was 10 years ago and she still lives on anti-depressants. Remarried but nothing cures losing your entire family in an instant.
So I don't' fly. Plus life insurance is impossible to get
I don't need to - I have so many hobbies that I love, like golfing all over and sports cars. I still say the bike should go - some may say "I have a bike and I'm still here" but the roads aren't the same as they were in 1990. I saw a lady doing something on her phone the other day (presumably texting) and she blew a red light at full speed and to this day has no idea she did it - never even looked up. My wife and I were in the left turn lane and we thought - "WOW!"
There are two types of riders: Those who have gone down hard and those who WILL. And trust me - I've owned 8 bikes - I totally get it.
(for the record the wife doesn't care what I do - these are my decisions)
