You are absolutley right, I am in the minority on this. And if I was in the market for a brand new sports car that was very comfortable and performed great, the best choice for the money would be a 991. That's probably why I heard they are the most profitable car company right now.

i dont understand the concern.....

if you build one just like the previous outgoing model, the price is pretty damn close...

they raised the msrp 2k and added NAV for free, so technically its 2k cheaper than before..

Can't have an R8, although a great car my golf bag will not fit anywhere but the passenger seat.

A 991 can be had for a reasonable price. The one I have on order is:

991 Base
Ruby Red
Full leather interior, Agate/Pebble grey
Bose package (XM, CD changer, HD radio)
Premium Package
20" S Wheels
Painted Center Caps
"911" model designation
Ventilated Seats
Heated Steering Wheel
PASM
Sunroof
Sport Chrono

The sticker on this car was $101,620, not bad at all IMO.

My opinion might not be very popular around here but until the recent wave of Panamera and 991 I think they were resting on their laurels and collecting a lot of money for past innovation. Looks like someone lit a fire under that mgmt team. Thank god.

Interestingly enough there isn't another car in the $120-130k range that is similar to the 911. You got your Corvettes at just under $100k. You got your GTR and Merc SL at $100k. And then the Carrera S guys (at least the orders I've seen) are largely coming in at $125-135k. What else is there at this price point? Maybe an R8? meh....really nothing else at or around $130k that is similar.

Also interesting to think that you can build a 911 from basically 100k to 250k.

Never really thought about this until now. Anybody know of a $125-130k performance sports car?
Too bad the new NSX won't be out for another 3 years but you can have a look at it here:

You do have a point though that compared to cars like the Vantage, R8, or the exotics like Ferrari's and Lambo's; the 991 is a bargain for its performance and comfort. But its still hard for me to get my head around spending 125k or more for a car that is just a little better than the 997.2S I had which costs only 103k.
Definitely the Law of Diminishing returns. There is a point at which customers are going to say:

1/ I hang on to my car for another year or two... I like to soo much.
2/ this does not make sense
3/ the wife says .. "me or the car"
4/ how much for that floor mat??
5/ did you see that new car from Acura?
6/ this car costs as much as our house... are you nuts... kids go to college instead.
7/ 2000 dollars lease per month? are you kidding me?
8/ hey this 996T is become is classic. I am going buy one of those. They don't make them like that anymore.

On the other hand.. I know there's going to be a a low-mile 1 or 2 year old GTS w/ PDK that might have me itching in a year or two.

I agree with you. In a year or two, there probably will be a 997.2 Turbo or Turbo S that may have me itching as well!

Porsche charges what the market will bear, and I think lack of competition in this price range is a key reason for the 911 costing what it does. It's real competition is exotics, compared to which the 911 is a great value.

Option is the madness. learn to be realistic. at any given day a C4S that cost more than 145k is mad. unless u plan to keep it forever!
