IL tested 12' PDK vs manual

Pretty big performance difference right there, but still would choose the manual. I don't know what options they had but that PDK car ran over 126k and wasn't even a Cab

Manual PDK
0-30 (sec.): 1.9 1.5
0-45 (sec.): 3.0 2.6
0-60 (sec.): 4.6 3.9
0-60 with 1-ft Rollout (sec.): 4.4 3.7
0-75 (sec.): 6.3 5.5
1/4-mile (sec @ mph): 12.7 @ 113.2 12.0 @ 116.5

Total time from 45-75 was 3.3 for the manual, 2.9 seconds for PDK.
Anyone know the gear ratios for the 7speed manual? 1 or 2 shifts to 75?

Manual for me too. Electronically managed launched effectiveness is clear in the 0-30 time. Obviously, instant shifts also help the times. But, in-gear thrust will be basically the same, and I would never do a max-attack launch in my own car anyway. I respect the PDK, but I have no interest in owning one -- manual for me.

Love the PDK technology but frankly it just gets boring and really lacks the entire engine engagement (feathering etc.). Its just so much more fun to drive and I would happily give up speedy launches as I rarely use all the power of the S as it currently stands.

Their both great (although I haven't driven the 991 manual yet)! But I've had 14 Porsches now, over 46 years and all but the last one has been manual. I tried a tip way back and rejected it, and then I tried one in 2007 and rejected it also. When I tried the 2009 PDK I got it and my two 40-something sons said they were going to disown me- until they drove it. I've really enjoyed driving it and my short test drive with the improved one in the 991 is even better. It’s a little embracing that after 40+ years of practice matching RPMs during downshifting the PDK not only does it more accurately, it does it in a fraction of the time.
Driving a PDK does fell a little like an electronic game, but it doesn't lose that tactile feel for some reason like simulators do. Now that the 991 has slightly more engine noise and a lot less road noise and playing with the PDK is really is sensual.

If I were going to spend any time at the track, I would pick the PDK as it has been proven to be much faster in that environment. However, my 997 and soon to be 991, is my daily driver and I quite enjoy the manual gearbox. Just not ready to give it up just yet....

I don't care how much faster the PDK is at 'full launch', I can't imagine any minimal PDK fun factor that would obviate the manual's visceral connection to the car.
I'll have to drive a PDK in the near future, since the 7 speed will not be available. Perhaps I can be persuaded. But, I doubt it.
The C2S is pretty fast for only 400 ponies. I'm surprised.

Gear ratios in the 991 manual and PDK are the same..

I was surprised they didn't note the one difference that I find the most helpful in the real world; typical pdk: 30-50mph 2.4sec, 50-70mph 2.8sec. 6sp: 30-50mph 7.2sec, 50-70mph 6.7sec.
Notes from C&D test notes on '09 997s. A '10 997tt w/ pdk: 30-50mph 1.8sec, 50-70mph 2.2sec.
We'll all occasionally run 0-60 but everyday behind the wheel the opportunity for traffic bound speed makes the pdk unique.
