Does anyone else feel like this? I'm thinking I would love to order a 991, coming from my 05 C2S, which I also ordered new, but I'm just not sure its enough of an improvement to justify 100K hard earned after tax bucks. What prompted this thread was seeing the new Car and Driver on the table when I got home with the cover being a ZL1 Camaro 580 hp for probably about 50K. I'm thinking I need about 450 hp and a manual tranny on this new chassis to be ready to pull the trigger.

This...this motor will support 800hp with just a few bolt ons, new TVS blower along with higher rpm potential for short periods to 7krpm.

However, to the OP...the 911 is better in so many more ways that really the cars can't even be mentioned in the same breath and I love Mustangs.

Hell, the M3 is a better hp / $ ratio and you still get a well built car for almost half the money.

hp doesnt mean much. my 320 hp 2002 996 was plenty fast. it's about looks, feels, handling, braking, sound, reliaiblity and safety. porsche does it all together very well.

 

Yes, Porsche offer 400 hp but more important, they are the HP that you can use. Not the hp to burn tyres or only on straight.

Actually, 991s are not slow, they got the power that more than enough for most people to drive them on the street. More improtant is the feeling and handling that come together as one with the driver while still civilize and comfortable to drive

 

I came to Porsche from a C63 AMG with a 6.2L V8, 451 hp, 443 ft-lb (still have it). Compared to such muscle cars, Porsches are indeed stingy on power, and that thought has crossed my mind many times. But IMO, the other attributes of Porsches are so good that they more than make up for it. In fact, I've driven the 911 turbo and still prefer the feel of the NA 911. Not that I care much about it, but another related upside of the Porsches is relatively good gas mileage.

 

that´s called modest HP gain, because a carmaker needs room for the next generations.
BUT the new car is also lighter and full of technical gizmos to make the handle/drive better.
i mean it is as quick round the Ring as the previous GT3, so in my view the price is justified.

If straight ahead grunt is all you want, there are many other choices. A Porsche is about more than sheer grunt. However, more power can be added if so inclined. As for me, I wouldn't touch the engine. I would change the wheels and add some cosmetic enhancements because I like making every car mine. I wouldn't put on wheels that would keep me from enjoying it's sporting nature, though.
It's a car to enjoy, not race.
You can make it a racer but there are better options out there for that.

 

While 400 in the 991s is probably plenty for many us, for sone it simpy isn't. The 991tt I'll likely have 530+ hp. This now gets many up to the power range that they want but when looking at what is available from other manufacturers, it is easy to see the point of the op. $/hp is one of the numbers that you sometimes you wished you didn't.

 

Heck I have a buddy that will build you a 600 HP big block and drop it in a '71 nova for under $20k.

That car handles like a dream. Corners like it's on rails

 

I know....it is a great car. That is why I have one after owning just muscle cars previously. I thought people were going to tout the fact that you can get into the 3's on a 0-60 run using PDK and LC. I like the manual tranny though in which case I think it needs just a little more than 15 hp from the the last generation. I just think with all the other great handling and chassis features as well as the weight reduction, what it could be if they opened up the horsepower sphincter a little more. Waiting for the X51 I guess.

LMAO! Really guys? HP in a P-Car is about being able to use it. As mentioned above you can buy a 650 HP Mustang and crash it on the first turn. Our cars are all around performers vs. Muscle cars.
