Hehe, nice suggestion! I already thought about a totally bare bones manual 981S (where I would put my bucket seats and work on stiffening the suspension a bit) in a similar spirit as what the prior Cayman R was.
The Cayman GTS will also be released this year. Still a bit afraid to fall short on torque though. The 981S is plenty fast and quick around the track, but, to a certain point, the 991S is already low on torque for lazy commuting.

Maybe a track car project when the old M3 is gone (to college with my son)

Thanks. If you like M3's in bright colors, I just bought this one last night (2002 E46 M3 SMG w/136 kmiles):



I had just sold a VW GTI and wanted something faster than the E36 that I could beat up on the track with no concern about the consequences (other than my own safety). I will still take the 991 to the track but I may push it less hard than before.
Only downside: my high school/college sons both commute in M3's. Would have been too show off for me at that age, but it is for a good cause

I'll post a few pics and impressions later this week.

Talking about kids and cars, I keep repeating to my sons that the first car I got in college was a white 10 year old Toyota 1000 that only had a few of its original 45hp left and that is, to date, the worst car I have driven. The fit and finish was OK, with plastics from another age, but the steering, braking, handling, etc, were terrible. Never thought at that point that I would ever drive a P-car. Maybe I am simply over-compensating

Love the E46. Had one in silver. Tracked it until I sold it with 123,000 miles. Never an issue with it. There is a clutch delay valve that I would remove. Many threads about it.

If you upgrade the tires make sure you upgrade the brakes. I put R-compound tires on it and left the brakes stock. Got to the point that I couldn't even get anti-lock to kick on. Came back to pits and the pads started on fire. A small little flame on the top of the pad. I panicked. Wasn't sure what to do. Got in and drove it around. Fire went out. Funny story now but completely clueless at the time.

My first was like the white car. I just kept going What do you mean overcompensate?

First 'big mod' of my reborn 991

I just re-installed my hardwired Escort 9500ix using the new StickyCup mount. I find it a lot nicer, cleaner and sturdy than the usual little transparent suction cups mounts:



Nothing earth shattering and certainly not as sleek as a fully integrated 9500ci system, but the best option to mount a portable device IMHO. I though about a mount attached to the rear view mirror, but I think the detector would sit too low and obstruct my vision of the road.



I would be curious to give a test drive to the new PassportMax. I found the 9500ix (and 9500ci i had in the previous car) much superior to the V1, but improving on the performance of the 9500ix -not tickets since I have it- could prove challenging

I've had this in my Amazon shopping cart for the past month but honestly hadn't seen the need to pull the trigger yet. As flimsy as the OEM mount is, it doesn't move, shake or rattle where I've got it so I'm just waiting until maybe it fails me or something. Either that or I'll just end up getting it so I can have an extra mount for when I use it in my other car.
