Thanks for that. Nice to see Dickie Meaden doing the review. If Chris Harris was still with Evo I imagine he would have done it.

Much of what he says is not specific to the base car and is just a rehash of what has been said many times before about the 991 compared to earlier 911 incarnations.

What is said when compared to the 991 S is mostly positive aside from a comment about it feeling less rear engined.

I just tried to rewatch the video and it is marked as private. WTH?

I still don't understand what you are expecting different in a base review. Oh, where are the 50 ponies?

I have a base cab on order as well and I don't want to speak for Sapster but I would like to know if the S is worth the additional 15K.

Personally, I don't have the PSE or PASM ordered on my base but if I did, I might look into spending an additional 5k (offset by standard Carrera S wheels I paid a premium for on my base) and getting the S.

What I really want to hear is the stock exhaust on the Base and hear the Base with the stock exhaust in the streets.

I don't really understand your bolded question.

Isn't it obvious what I am expecting in a base review? It is a similar car to the S with a somewhat different engine with less power, no standard PASM, smaller standard wheels, etc. Does all this make the car substantially different?

If you have an S ordered, there is no shortage of reviews to peruse. Up to now there has been very little to go on for the C2. What is so difficult to understand about wanting to know about the car you have on order?

Bummer can't watch it. Also interested in a specific review of the base. I know it's missing power but numbers and theory don't always translate the same in the real world. Maybe the base is loud and anemic? Who knows, was looking at ordering an S but then I thought hey, the new base performance is 99.9% of my current S and I don't come even close to pushing this thing to the limit. Experiences are everything not just numbers. Its the whole reason you spend the money on a P car in the first place instead of saving you 10k-100k and going to buy a GT-R. A car is more than numbers.

Get a minimal S over an optioned base any day. I drove a 991S and GTS earlier and thought they were underpowered, so definitely go for an S.

The standard 991S exhaust was loud enough, but the PSE did add a lot of sound so still worth it if you like the car to sound beastly.

But if you're willing to live without the options of the S why not get a base if you don't need the power. Not everyone feels like the current S is underpowered. I certainly don't, and 95% of the other cars on the road (fast ones included) don't feel that way when I leave them at the stoplight.

Agree, Porsche says 3.4 will be as vibration free as an S, but I'd like someone to confirm that, because in the past the S has been better.

I certainly respect and like your views, and if you can order a well optioned cab, you could certainly add an S, my suggestion would be to do so to eliminate this question. I know you are not averse to spending. This would be worth it, for the bragging rights alone. That aside I still think go for an S.

I hear you. It is a valid point you make, but as Ptarded mentioned on the other thread, you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere.

Personally, I don't think the S is worth the premium for my use. Sure, I could cut my options and get an S, but that would leave me with a car that's missing things I want. For the amount of money these cost, you shouldn't feel this way.

I'd like to think most people here aren't buying their 911 to impress people,
And even if you are the base is still extremely impressive. I think the point here is not is the S better, but is the base adequate. It's not very wise to throw away $15k just in case. They train of thought is why our economy is in the gutter as it is.

I drove the first Base 3.4L Carrera delivered in my country last friday.
I friend of mine is the lucky owner so he let me drive it for a few spins.
The car is blast! I absolutely love it. it sounded amazing and it was very fast by my standards.
I couldnt compare it with the 991S because there isnt one avaliable in my dealer.
After I drove the 3.4L Carrera, I left in my BMW F10 550i and I felt like I was driving a cow, the Carrera totally ruined my drive home.

I have a highly optioned Carrera S on order and I dont regret ordering it one bit, but I would'nt dare to bash the base Carrera. it is awesome!!

Sapster, I have learned that a few thousand here and there don't matter when you are ordering a $100k car in the big scheme of things. Especially if you are planning on keeping the car for a while. I started with a minimal S, then adjusted to a moderately optioned S and by the time my car was here,I wanted a well optioned one, but a bit too late. Anyone paying for a base could just as easily get an S, if he truly could afford the base and I believe it is well worth it. This applies not just to the porsche brand but other brands too.

If you still prefer the base, I can respect that, but I honestly don't expect that reviews will point out the difference.
