Quote: Well said, this summarizes a lot of points. 997 guys are getting at least as much bashing as 991 guys, based on presumptions about jealously, regret, etc.

Guys, I suggest that we stick to discussing the cars and their pros and cons, rather than speculating about people's psychological motives.
Who's said anything about "you can't afford it and your jealous or your against progress of any type"!?....
I think that's someones insecurity/inferiority complex speaking.
I certainly have not seen anyone who's got (or placed an order for) a 991 say this... and you know why?
WE DON"T CARE!! (but that doesn't mean that we want to put up with it either).
Just like you don't (should not) care what anyone thinks of your 997!

Moreover, it's idiotic to thrash a 991, most 991 owner come from the 997, most 997 owners will (more than likely) at some point be driving a 991.

What then... you guys are going to pick on the 991 base owners or is it going to be because you've got a base that the Turbo's and GT's are not "real 991's" because there's too much electronics and it's too easy to drive fast... or, is it going to be the turn of the 997 guys at that point, with "I used to have 997 and the 991 is way superior blah, blah blah"...
For ego-maniacs there's always going to be something to **** about.

Do you see any new 991 owners start a thread on the 997 forum with reviews of how much better the 991 is (yes these reviews are out there!) because "it's too important to ignore"... NO!
That would be rude!!!!!

Yet here you guys are...flooding this section with negative views.
Sure you post just positive ones as well... just enough to be able to take a **** again.
Would you walk up to someone who just got a 991 and say "my 997 is better" and start trash talking about his ride!?
That's just infantile not mention a good way to get your @ss kicked...

I'm sure you guys will find a way to turn this around... like "Guys, I suggest that we stick to discussing the cars and their pros and cons, rather than speculating about people's psychological motives" while clearly addressing the 991 crowd... rightttt we are the onces who need to be reigned in...

Whatever, knock yourselves out.
I'm not going to give you guys any more attention, clearly that's what you're after.

Out.

The 991 and 997 are both cars with relative pros and cons. As car guys in a car forum, we should expect the cars to be discussed in depth, with both pros and cons pointed out. We can do it without being rude by avoiding making it personal. That line has been crossed by people on both sides, but seems to me more so by 991 guys questioning the motives of 997 guys.

I understand that 991 guys want to celebrate their new car, and don't want people raining on their parade, but they need to realize that we're not just here for cheerleading. Some of us are disappointed by the 991, or are still making up our minds. Maybe the 991 guys should start a thread on "why I love my 991" so that it will be understand that negative comments are unwelcome in that thread.

Wasn't going to respond but I will say this... (just like I stated previously) you've been able to take things and twist them around.

You think trash talking about someones ride is not personal!?
People whom are getting or have a 991 do not come on here to get your approval or dis-approval (it's shocking I know) and certainly not for cheerleading.
We really don't need your validation.

You're nice and polite now but we'll see how long that lasts.
Why would we need to start are own thread to avoid this invasion of negativity and personal attacks... IT'S OUR SECTION!
Why would we have to tip toe around you!?

Would it really be too much to expect some form of decorum or even a cordial disposition as it pertains to dealing with someones pride and joy...

Clearly these are all rhetorical questions.
Spin it all you want, people didn't acquire the means to purchase these types of toys by lacking in IQ... everyone can make up their own minds when it comes to these ridiculous word games.

This is a waste of time...

Out. (again...)

Read my posts. Have I been offensive? Have I said that people who prefer the 991 are foolish or made a bad decision? I don't think so (others have used stronger language, but let's not lump people together). I'm judging the cars, not people, and like to think I'm among friends here.

Also, let me remind us all that this thread is about the 997 GTS vs 991S, so comparison of the two is the whole point.

And comparisons of the 997 or 991 can be, and have been, made in either forum. Unless I misunderstand how the forum is supposed to work, the 991 forum isn't limited to praising the 991.

I challenged him to copy something I wrote that trashed the 991. He won't be able to.

Like I said before we will probable own 991's in the future. And there is no reason for us not to discuss the car's pro's and con's and the direction Porsche is taking.

Lets stick to that as you have suggested.

A related point is that some of this public discussion may filter back to Porsche and influence the direction they're taking. With the amount of money involved, maybe they have some 'spies' in the forums?

Think we'll be blackballed from owning any future Porsches?

Yes if the kids can play nice... I'm like a very evenly tempered (but hungry!) Pittbull, everything is beautiful, just don't get rough with me or my peeps and for gods sake... no big movements!

phfffff ... I did it again!

All joking aside I just want to be able to enjoy this section without drama or aggression.
I think most of us have enough sh#t we've got to deal with in our business lives, lets face it... the 80's are definitely over!! (the fact i can still remember them having spend them in Amsterdam is a miracle )

That said "some" have crossed a line...
But you're right, you only came on my radar because you've attached yourself to Mr. Buckweat... and his views/disposition.

Don't like bullies, never have, never will, won't stand for it in real life... nor here.
One can only get in others faces so much... at some point the other shoe is going to drop.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we don't have to agree, just don't try shove it down my throat (ya know meat, chewy bones, cartridge... hungry Pittbull...)

Anyway it sounds like we can put this behinds us.
