MT, 997 vs 991 - thoughts?
Has anyone driven a MT 991? Dealer says not available until April 2012.
The ergonomics on the driver's side of the automatic 991 don't feel as comfortable as a MT 997.

Your concerns are shared by other manual drivers.
Time will tell.

I'm with Mr. Wheat on this one....... I wonder about the extra leg on the gear pattern too.....

The shift position is the same as the GT3 isn't it? I think it will boil down to the ability of the MEchanically COnverted Shift Actuator (MECOSA) to change the inherent PDK pattern (which would not be drivable) to the standard modified H pattern that we're used to. I read somewhere that ZF did it, so I'm confident it will work well, but it has to move two rods at one time in the PDK transmission using a gate guide so there may be more effort. The synchronizers are supposed to now reduce their force required so it may be a wash.

I have a 997 turbo w manual. My 991 has PDK. I think I am sold on the PDK. I have had manual cars all my life, but the PDK is pretty awesome. I leary of buying a manual car that was designed for a PDK transmission. I guess it's like tube amps vs solid state amps.

I am not concerned about the design. If the manual is based on th PDK so be it, that should only help with parts and fservice commonality.
My MT car is the first one (also the first base car) that my dealer will be getting. It is due to complete production on 3/12. When it arrives I will post comments.

The shift **** on the Carrera GT doesn't look comfortable to operate either based on positioning. But it's ergonomically well placed.
