Spacing of lettering on the rear and the deletion of Model Designation
Spacing of lettering on the rear and the deletion of Model Designation
Good news is that my car has been born and is awaiting transport to my dealer. The only slight issue is that when I reviewed the final build on the Porsche dealer website vs. my build, I noticed that the final build did not include the deletion of the model designation. Hopefully, this is a mistake. I know it's not a big issue, but I had a few questions:
1) Has anyone removed all the badging from the rear yet (Porsche + Carrera S)? Any pictures?
2) If you order the deletion of the model designation from the factory, does the factory lower the Porsche lettering (to center it more vertically)? I think they do this, thus my next question.
3) If number two is true, does anyone have any pictures on what it would look like to remove the model designation at the dealer? I have a feeling that it might make the Porsche look too uncentered and high.
4) Does the removal of the badging mar the paint/clearcoat?
Thanks,
Rich

Check out the pictures of my car in my garage. It had the rear lettering shaved by dealer. It looks great IMO. However my car has a GT3 aerokit so a carrera might look a little more plain without a wing.
P O R S C H E is centered when you get the model designation but it's nothing the dealer can't do with some floss. They should take care of it for you when it arrives. Definitely get it centered.
I would be a little worried that if it was done by the dealer, it might be a little crooked. Since it looks like it may come with full badging, I am wondering now what it would look like if the all the lettering was removed. Anyone have any pics of this setup?
Correction
Sorry I meant to say the car was ordered this was from Porsche. I do agree with you that if the work was done by the dealer it might not come out that great unless they have some great body shop and paint guys.
Removing the script from the engine cover is easy. I used a small hair dryer ($5 at Wally World many moons ago) that I keep in the garage when I need to heat something (body side molding, decals, bumper stickers, etc).
Simply pick a start point, warm the lettering, then, using dental floss to get between the lettering and the engine cover, gently 'saw' back and forth to slice through the two-sided tape that holds the lettering to the cover. It comes right off - but don't rush it..
Once you remove the lettering you can use your thumb to roll-off any remaining tape residue, then use a good quality wax to remove the finger prints and any sticky residue left behind from the adhesive.
I'm waiting to see someone remove the encyclopedia from the rear engine cover and replace it with a simple '911' script.

I ordered mine with only "911" under the "PORSCHE". I will have to look at it and I may "saw" off the PORSCHE lettering.
I think most people would know its a Porsche anyways! (...or is that the new beetle? no, it cant be, it must be a Porsche....(cue sound of exhaust note)...oh ya, its a Porsche!!!)

There is a website that I could go to and find out my cars status during the build ?
You give dealers way too much credit. Even for a skilled Mechanic attaching each letter would be a challenge! I can see it now in my mind!
