Porsche 991 Cabriolet
I have a slightly different perspective on the badging -- it could be that the "911" badge is just intended to be cool, rather than identifying the car as a 911. Didn't the 40th Anniversary edition have a "911" badge? Personally, I do think some of the models have too many letters on the back -- but I understand these can be modified or deleted when you order the car? It's personal taste -- people are playing with badges all the time. It's all good.
You have to remember that Porsche is also moving more cars in Asia and are trying to build their brand over there. I don't know for sure, but I would expect that the 911 is not as iconic in China.
But on the 991 section it should be viewed as "constructive" criticism, I might add, from someone who hasn't even driven a 991... that's a double standard if I ever saw one.
I currently have a 996 and absolutely love it but ya don't see me doing any trash talking about the 991.
I even canceled my original order of the 991 after I saw it in person the first time... but still no trash talk, observations yes.
A month later I saw it in black and fell in love, test drove it and OMG... what a machine!!
Placed my order again (back of the bus this time...) and can't wait to get it!!
Drive one, open her up (be honest with yourself) and you'll be amazed at how good it is.
until then... it's all noise and speculation.
My 2 cents.

I really don't see it that way... if a 996 non-turbo or 997 guy was to come on the 996 turbo thread and start criticizing the 996 turbo he's be swarmed!

I think that the better question is why did Porsche put so much on the back as standard IMO it just looks crowded. I wish I knew you could delete some or all of it when I ordered. But that is just me. Gleek48 may be right about brand building. Or someone in marketing just liked it. No matter what it is badged it is a 911. That is, of course, my opinion, and also of course, the opinion of those making it.
Well said Sid! I find the entire discussion to be odd. All of the magazines complained that the 991 was changed so little in style that it was hard to tell it from past iterations. I disagree, but beauty is in the eye... . The 991 is the next 911 because Porsche said it was and Porsche is so into its own history, it would rather be accused of having changed the style too little than too much, because they are phasing out the prior run in favor of the 991 and because it has so much in common with all it's ancestors, most notably the location and type of engine, the cabin arrangement, the location of the boot, and the overall shape. You can like it or not, agree with it, or not, buy it or not. I bought it. I have no trouble with calling it a 911. And that is good enough for me.

Yep all that text is a bit much... those who don't know what type of P. it is will ask "is that a Turbo!" anyway" hahaha

Those who do know... really don't need a book printed on the back end...
Whether I stick with the C2S on order or switch for the C4S, I'm taking everything off and just keeping the porsche lettering, I think that looks better than ordering it without the script because they drop the porsche text down to center it more.
I think it looks good sitting a little higher so you can always go that way.
Regardless... it's pretty good problem to have
Thanks!
