Is White the new Black?
Have you ever owned a black car? This may explain your lack of understanding to what i was actually referring to..
There are generally two types of black. metallic, and non metallic. Metallic, or in Porsches case "basalt" is actually quite easy to maintain. Straight black requires more finesse and care but we are talking maintenance here and not what colour actually shows the dirt the most.
The point i was actually making was that black shows dirt the least of all colours because dirt is hidden in black whereas in all other colours dirt and road grime is easily visible, therefore there is a need to wash the car more.
The lighter the colour the easier it becomes to see the dirt. I could use another example with black wheels. Many choose black wheels because it hides the brake dust and doesn't need washing as regularly as silver or any other colour for that matter.
With a Porsche, once you know how to take care of the duco, swirls and scratches are easily controlled if you are using the right equipment and products. I would totally agree solid non metallic Black shows swirls and scratches more than any other colour however it does not require the same regularity of washing as lighter coloured cars...which was my point.
The problem with a black car (or any solid or non metallic colour) is most people use a single sponge and a single chamois on everything, and that can cause problems. Once you have been shown how to maintain the duco and possess the right equipment it all becomes very easy.
So the benefits of black is you don't need to wash it as regularly as a light coloured car. That was the point i was referring to

.You make an intelligent, articulate, and spirited defense of your point of view. I admire that greatly. No kidding. I just totally disagree. I have owned a black car. And a Montreal Blue Z3 (beautiful navy with undertones of purple). I did not like the black. I loved the blue. Never, ever again. At the risk of being accused of a conspiracy between JerZ Porsche owners - I agree with Buckwheat!
Cheers!
Sooooo great looking!

Hey no worries AG991! It wasn't really a contest of who's was right or wrong for me but more so just me putting out my point of view from what i had personally found. I'd heard a lot about black cars previous to owning one and was surprised it was no big deal. It was actually great not having to wash the car every week. Sometimes it would go a month or so. I am very fussy with my cars though so I've never had any problem with swirls and so on anyway. But i guess if an owner is a wham bam thank you ma'am type of regular car washer then black may be a problem to maintain. Cheers!

And yeh easter break does come with a few latish nights on the 6. hehehe..altho its coming up 11.40pm... movie is ended and wife is calling.. nice chatting, cheers.
I detail my own cars and I've been at enough detailing seminars and Zaino seminars in NJ with thePCA to know black is hardest to keep clean.
Please don't argue this one. It's pointless.
here one thread of many I found in 30 seconds of searching...

Easter morning here 9:40 am. Cloudless blue sky and 55 degrees F. Looks like a long break in drive for me! Cheers and good night!
Speed,
Totally like the way you articulate your point of view. I, like AG, just totally disagree. Might be a difference in locale. Here, in the Eastern US, there is just too much dust, pollen, etc. I have owned several black cars, my last being a Carbon Black X5M. It was dirty, showing dust and pollen within hours of being washed and waxed. I have owned several black cars, but now stay with whites, metallic whites, silvers and greys. Here in the US, they are just so much easier to maintain and keep clean.
I wish that I could keep a black car. Love them. Thought about making my California Nero in color, but just didn't want the hassle. So, I stuck with Grigio Silverstone.

And it does not matter for you or me in the short term. The oaks are in bloom so in a day or two, everything, of every color, is going to be a sick yellow/green - but, at least with my sneezing and watery eyes, I won't be able to tell anyway.

Most every car I have had has been white in my 38 years of driving. I have had other colors...silver (never again, too ordinary) red (still have 2) even black (too picky to go black) and always fall back to white. I have bought nothing but white in the past 8 years or so. Currently have 3 white cars.
Happy Easter all!

If I did not get the 991 that I did, it probably would have been white! Or blue with the dark brown leather. Or maybe....
I just ordered my first white car in 34 years. My last one was a 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider with a black top and interior. It was the car I was driving when I met my wife and is the only car I wish I still had. Yesterday I ordered a white S Cab with black top and black full leather. One thing I really like is how the brake calipers, the tail lights, and the rear reflectors contrast with the white body. I know some don't like the reflectors, but there's no way I'm covering them up. I will, however, install clear side markers. Now if only July would hurry up and get here.
I disagree with everyone here. I never liked white and will never purchase a white sports car. I think both white and black are the 2 worst colors when it comes to showing the dimensions and lines of a sports car, particularly the 911 as it seems to shorten the car. White used to be a girls only car color. One day a guy bought a white car and like most of this planet, monkey see, monkey do.
And silver is so boring...grey or platinum maybe.
