Is White the new Black?
Ordinary. ORDINARY! Why, I aught a... . Wait. Keep cool. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And it is the second most popular color. Which means it is not as ordinary as, as, as, white!
If I did not get the 991 that I did, it probably would have been white! Or blue with the dark brown leather. Or maybe....

Enjoy you beautiful new ride!
Black is not harder to maintain IF you spen more time and care washing and polishing it. From my personal experience silver, of which I've owned multiple shades of, always hides dust better than black, by a wide margin.
Yeah, I would agree about silver and metallic grey. My Grigio Silverstone California hides dirt like nobody's business. I can drive her in the rain and she still looks clean. Will be the color I order on my next one as well.

Not to be argumentative but I totally disagree.
I have owned probably around 20 black cars, including my last 997.1 TT. I also have owned lots of silver cars. Silver hides swirls, and dirt, much better. At least in the Southeastern US. It is a much more forgiving color. Black does not hide light colored clays, swirls or dirt better. It is much less forgiving. Black wheels hide brake dust much better because of the color of the dust and wheels, there is a lack of contrast.
As soon as it gets a little darker today, I am going to go wash our 2010 Black Yukon. I can see the pollen, clay and lite dirt on it easily....

Yes...many. In light color cars light bounces around and dirt is covered by the reflective light. In black cars light is absorbed there is no cover -up. In fact dirt and dust being lighter in color then black actually reflect the light and it shows up even more against the black.
I detail my own cars and I've been at enough detailing seminars and Zaino seminars in NJ with thePCA to know black is hardest to keep clean.
Please don't argue this one. It's pointless.
here one thread of many I found in 30 seconds of searching...

There was actually a time during my career not so long back where I had to employ a full a time detailer to do stock, and cars being a life time passion i became well versed in how to maintain solid and difficult colours such as a straight non metallic blacks and so on. The guy i employed also came from a Porsche dealership and was very knowledgeable. One secret is to avoid using sponges as they trap abrasives and to always use a wool mit, never swipe or rub with any pressure beyond the weight of the sodden glove and always use a 3 separate chamois. 2 for the duco (rotate during drying in a bucket of clean fresh water), and 1 for the glass and wheels. All solid colours can show swirls with solid black being the worst for sure. Basalt metallic is actually very forgiving and easy to upkeep if you apply the correct technique.
Anyway.... folks should buy what ever colour that turns them on without fear of maintenance in cleaning. It'd be a boring old world if we all drove the same colour and same car.
Even though its common, Silver is my favorite color for a Porsche 911, its classic, elegant and enhances the lines beautifully, I would love to see Porsche bringing back the old, pure, plain and cold Artic Silver.
I hate that there is no true silver in the Porsche color pallete, GT Silver is too blue/greyish and expensive and Platinum Silver, well I can't live with the idea of owning a sports car that looks gold/champagne from certain angles.
OTOH, the 991 looks very good in white, much better than in the 997 IMO.

It is funny you should say that. I was never a silver fan - I have become one. But silver on sports cars has always, to me, seemed very right. German cars of old used to be in silver a great deal - I wonder if it was not the German version of British racing green? I was unsure about the platinum silver as well. To be fair, it does change in differnt lights and, mostly it is more of a light pewter, if a bit more brown in cast. That said, it is not at all unpleasent - indeed, I think the car is more interesting with it. I think any color that is not that snot green/yellow/cream that is one of the current custom colors is OK.
And, for the next month, here in the eastern US, everything is going to be pollen green anyway and no matter how forgiving your paint is, it just sucks!
Hey AG991, I take my words back! I went to my dealer today to fill out some pre-delivery papers for my white Base and saw a Platinum 991S in the flesh for the very first time, it is beautiful, maybe warmer than Artic, but can't argue that is a very elegant and sporty color at the same time, I loved it, suits the 991 just perfect.

I'm just having fun with this thread anyway and I have seen, and love the 991 in white - what color interior and wheels - and Congrats!
Saw a white and black one at dealer last night when I went for monthly PCA meeting.
It looks great in white. Rear does look fantastic. Black is not too shabby either.
Can't go wrong with either but black did have much more visible dust on it.

^^^Platinum looks so good!
My manual White Base Carrera finally at the dealer ready for delivery.
I hate to admit that I am an idiot, imo white just looks meh in the flesh, I simply dont want it.
Yesterday at the dealer, I felt in love with a well optioned platinum silver 991S with carrera classic wheels, OMG what a beauty!
I decided to stay put, relax and see if I can trade it with the base, just hope without a significant $$$ loss.
