Child seat in 991
Child seat in 991
Just a heads up. The 991 does not allow the front passenger airbag to be disabled. The only option for child car seat (front or rear facing) is in the rear. With LATCH it will be much easier but rear facing is still going to be an issue. I was planning on having the LATCH installed on the front pass seat. Like you can do on the 997. With an airbag disabling switch. I just found out that you cannot do this in a 991. The issue is that the new guidelines have kids up to the age of 2 in a rear facing. I am sure the physical strength and agility to put a 1 to 2 yo kid in a rear facing child seat in the back of a 911 will far exceed me.
This was really only an emergency use only but will make it even more difficult.
Response from PCNA: , PAG stated:"955.044.802.93 is not needed
for the installation of a child car seat. It is just a spare part for ISOFIX".
Basically tethers for the LATCH system should be with the child seat and the
anchor points are displayed in the Owner’s Manual. The passenger side airbag can
no longer be deactivated therefore the child seat must installed in the rear
seat in accordance with the owner’s manual. Regards

As a parent of a 17 month old let me be the first to say there's no way in God's green earth I could get my kid into a rear facing seat in the back of the 991. Aint gonna happen. The new model's rear seat is much more accomodating for child seats in general but today's safer car seats are so stinkin' big that the rear facing models often struggle to fit in much larger cars (witness a recent InsideLine.com posting about just squeezing a rear facing seat in the back of a new Explorer).
June 16th .
Unless you're willing to move the front passenger seat all the way up and probably tilt the seat back forward you're just not getting any of today's modern, safe, rear facing child seats in the back of a 911.
As I noted before, InsideLine just squeezed one of the sleeker rear facing models in the back of a new Explorer and there's a bazillion times more space in the back seat of an Explorer than there is in a 911.
You're golden once your child is two and you can turn him/her around (or if you're willing to disregard the recommendations (maybe now law in some states) and turn your child around early). Until then the age 1-2 options for putting a child safely in the back of a 911 are almost non existent.
I put my Britax Marathon in the rear seat (rear-facing) of the 991. It fits. Works well with LATCH. The front passenger seat needs to be way up. This is an emergency only plan and no one would be in the front pass seat. The pain would be getting the little guy into the seat without throwing out my back. Cab could be helpful but the rear seatback is going to be more upright. Anyone know how to remove the rearseat back in a 991?
I will try to get a picture in the next day or so.
Agreed on the recommendation for rear-facing up to two years. The actual recommendation is rear-facing as long as possible. The thought is that their heads are some much larger in proportion to their necks. This is not something I plan on skimping on.
Maybe someone should develop a helmet and HANs for kids.

Recaro Vivo does not fit in the rear seat of the new 991. I bought a Harmony for $20 and it works great. Fits all the way back and belt is perfect positions on my 4yo. Ordered a Recaro Vivo because I thought it would be great to have the extra side protection. Will not slide all the way to the back of the seat. The seat narrows so much that the Vivo is off the back of the seat by 2-3 inches. The new 991 rear seats mau have LATCH but they seem to be more narrow than the 997.

Went to the dealer today with a set of car seats (Cybex, Graco, Radian, etc.), all boosters or "combination" seats and *none* fit in the back. Today's child seats are way too wide. The closest was the Radian (older model, 13.5" wide at the base, 15+ at the widest point halfway up the backrest), which kind of fit, but also was off the back of the 991 seat by about 2". Ended up ordering two
s which, if they are as cool as they seem, will have me sing praises for a long time.
Only thing missing now is a forward-facing seat, ideally with a 5-point harness for a 3.5 year old. Recommendations, anyone?

I use the Harmony booster. It fits perfectly. Puts the seatbelt on my 4yo in the perfect spot.
Britax Marathon does fit for forward facing. The seat back keeps it out a little far but it is stable. Would be great if you could figure out how to remove the rear seat back. This would allow the seat to move farther back. It does make the front passenger seat completely unusable.

Something changed in airbag technology in the last few years. None of the new cars have an airbag disable switch available (at least in the US). I know a Cybex Aton infant seat fits in the back of a 991. I didn't try any convertible seats, but since they're all bigger I doubt any of them would fit.

I also tried out the Harmony booster. Although it fits perfectly, I found two issues with it:
1. The handles on the side cover the seat-belt latch.
2. The harmony rises quite a bit, which is normally great, but in this case my kids heads were over the seats back.
After trying multiple others, I like the Cosco No Back Booster (http://www.target.com/p/Cosco-No-Bac..._qi_detaillink) from Target the most.
