Cabriolet has arrived
Hi Newman
Attached are pictures of the K40 install, the left light (hard to see - tucked under the trip OD reset button, right light, and the front mount under my plate mount - it still gets me sick that they had to drill my front bumper, but it did provide a good place for the K40 sensors. I have also thrown in a shot from the car show - sorry you missed it.
Hope you can drive some this week - weekend looks like a washout - my car control clinic is Sunday, rain or shine.
Michael

Michael - thanks for the photos, I am negotiating the price on the K40 and plan to have it installed next week along with the protective film. I appreciate your help. Looking forward to getting back Friday evening - its going to be a great weekend either way for me. Good luck with the driving school - assume this is your local Porsche club event? Newman
The NNJR - PCA is very active and a nice group of people. I guess rain is an advantage - the whole parking lot at Giant stadium will be a big skid pad!
I think that there is some play in where the lights are placed from the K40. Just make sure your installer is conscious of your sight lines - not his (my guy was at least 4 inches shorter and he was all leg and I am all torso. They were probably very visible to the installer. It is a good system - it has already saved me once.
Enjoy your weekend driving!
Michael

Hey Newman,
How did the K40 install go? How are you enjoying the car? As if I did not know!
I was thinking that if we are going to try and get recent 991 owners from the 6 in the tri-state area together, perhaps Sunday May 20th, or Saturday/Sunday May 26th/27th?
Another interesting question is where. Greenwich, Tarrytown area might be mutually accessible to all - although, I would prefer a bit further north/west ans it is a nicer drive. Any ideas?

Love the car but only have 200 miles on it. PCM electronics are a huge improvement over the 997.2 cars in my opinion, really like all the gauges as well. The influence of the electronics on the handling and engine performance is also quite apparent even with my limited (at modest speeds and RPMs) exposure to it. I personally like the technology even though I go all the way back to 356 models. More later.
Either of those dates would work for me. Greenwich to northern NJ are all good as well - the Hudson River has some nice drives. I'll think about it and get back to you. Probably someplace to have lunch, talk cars for a couple of hours. I'm 40 minutes from Greenwich, 60 minutes from the GW Bridge - don't mind driving!
How was you driving school in the rain - must have been fun, assuming you got out there.
Mike: I had the protective film installed today (good job from what I could see in their darkened garage). Also had them do the rear wheel arches. The radar guy got the front detectors mounted and the wires run today, will finish by noon Wednesday. I plan to meet him personally to get get some practical advice; I had spoken with this guy twice while making my decision to go with the K40 and was impressed with his knowledge. He installs both the K40 and the 9500ci, he told me that all of his K40 customers who went with the RL360 unit are 100% satisfied, even those that had previously owned the 9500ci.

The Car Control Clinic was a blast. It was pouring so it was so easy to spin out, which I did several times. The car is remarkable and very forgiving, right up to the point where you cross that PDCC line and then, without warning, you are out of control. It is also makes it easier to get it back - fortunately for me.
I understand why the purists would not like it. I love it. And I love the car without apology! Damn the purists, I was never going to be a race car driver and at 51, I am not on anyone's drivers list. This is the best machine I have ever owned and it does so many things well, from getting me to work, to making me feel like a kid again.
I loved my 997.2. I love this more!
Give the where some thought - wanted to get as many of us who got each other through the waiting since February together as possible.
Stay well, drive in good health, and enjoy!
We would love to have you! (even if the your 991 is still pending delivery!) Stay tuned - nothing yet is set.
