Loaded 981 Boxster S or Bare Bones base 991?
I had the 1st generation boxster and really loved the feel of that car but at 5'10" and being I am the type that sits a little reclined I found the Boxster just too small for me. I ended up only keeping it a short time because it was too uncomfortable for me.
At your height of 6'3" I don't know if you would be comfortable in the new boxster though it is a little bigger than the older ones.
If you are comfortable in it then I would go for the new boxster.

OP:
I'd really try to drive both, back to back, before deciding. Also, if you're comparing a 991 coupe with the Boxster, of course you need to decide whether having a convertible is important to you.

are you comparing a Boxster to a 911 cab or coupe. if the latter, than strikes me a few more issues to review to get a real answer??
i love the boxster and my hunch is that i will be dumping my 991 coupe in a year for the 981 S. have to wait until you can custom order colour and/or interior leathers. in the meantime can see what it is like to live with PDK & the Burmester.

I am looking at a 991 coupe. The cab is too pricey. The Boxster being a convertible is a nice addition but it is not all that important to me. I already have a Wrangler with a soft top for when I get a urge for top down driving.
here is a nice short review of the new Boxster and as much as i love the 911 i fully agree with the Journalist´s verdict:
the new Boxster is no longer a poor man´s Porsche and it´s finally a Boxster that looks manly.
it stands on its own and looks fabulous imho (and a bit like the epic Carrera GT).
The 911 is THE icon and more powerful, but the new Boxster/Cayman is even better dynamically and
a real bargain in comparison. the 911 diehard fans won`t care too much tho, cause to them the 911 is the holy grail,
even if the new Boxster/Cayman is the "better" Porsche.

Ive never owned one but did test drive a few, i'm too big to fit comfortably in it, cant argue that it offers excellent driving dynamics, its a Porsche after all, the Cayenne does too and its one big SUV that I love BTW.
I suggest you to google "Boxster chick car" you'll be surprised.

Chill out man, didn't mean to offend, there is nothing wrong in saying that the Boxster has the Highest Proportion of Female Buyers, aka chick car, thats a fact.

I suggest you to google "Boxster chick car" you'll be surprised, just take it easy.

So maybe allot of people think its a chick car...no issue with me. Since I know there are allot of people that know sh$t about driving and performance vehicles.
As a Porsche enthusiast I think it better to educate people than perpetuate BS....IMHO.
So lets talk about the new boxter ... the side view is awesome. The rear view is ok and the frontal looks pretty meh. I think the car will be a real competitor of the 991 cab at a major discount with sufficient capabilities for most of the drivers on the road. It has fewer nannies, something a lot of real drivers will appreciate. And, yes my wife - a real hot chick - loves it. She will be turning heads for sure.
I am chilled..I posted my opinion and stick to it. People who think the boxster is a chick car know nothing about driving and driving dynamics.

Speaking of girls or chicks, today I saw a white GT3 RS with the badge in red, crawling out of a parking space with some seeming difficulty and it was not a small space either. Clearly the driver was having some trouble pulling it out. Then to my surprise I saw that the driver was a chick. Do chicks drive these cars? Also, it shows that power steering plus is a must in a 997 as the hydraulic steering gets really heavy in the parking lot.
As to the OP question, based on what you have said so far I would get what you are already leaning towards the all new boxster S or probably a loaded cayman S but only if the all new model were out.

I think of a chick car as something that they are more likely to buy because they find it appealing. It does not mean anything about the performance of the car. Chicks just like small convertibles.... Personally, I think the Cayman and Boxster are both awesome!
I like the Boxster S with a manual more tahn the new 991 . In terms of improvenent I feel the Boxster is a huge step up from the predecessor and the 991 is just a huge (literally) mess . I do feel that the 80K Boxster is double what the original cost . The car will have none of the practical aspects of the M3 . In fact I even wonder what the next gen BMW M3 wil be like because i love the interior of the new 3 series and as far as the engine being a turbo I do have dioubts.
tough choice .. but the 991 is NOT one of them in my opinion.
