Does anyone know if the new 7 speed manual gearbox is the same weight as the PDK box? The reason I ask is because the PDK box weights ~30kg more than the manual in the Boxster ... and therefore would there be another 30kg of savings in the 991 if it came with a conventional manual?

 

The manual box is slightly lighter in the 991 as well (about the same as the Boxster). And other options also add weight- I can't think of any that don't but at the same time they don't tell the weights of the other options.

Yes, that's pretty much it. It's a manual version of the PDK, made by ZF, minus one clutch.
The 6 speed manual in the new Boxster is the same Getrag gearbox as before.

Thanks guys. I looked up the Porsche specs as well, and like the post quoted above states - the manual in 991 is 20kg lighter than the PDK. Also I looked up the same for Boxster, where the manual is 30kg lighted than PDK.

So going by the above, the 7 speed manual in the 991 is 10kg heavier than the original / conventional 6 speed manual that it replaces.

 

But PDK versions although heavier are faster than manuals afterall...
