2013 vs 2012
2013 vs 2012
I am supposed to pick up my 2012 991 base cab in a few short weeks and I am starting to get nervous about it. Is it normal for a new model year car to be released after such a short time?
The 2012 cabs were released in the middle of April and now I'm getting word that the 2013 model year cars will be released around July further depreciating the 2012's.
I'm pretty peeved about this and do I have the right to be? I completely understand I am spending a lot of money and I can wait but with that said I think it's ridiculous the 2013's are being released so early and for those who ordered a cab expecting it for the summer, this puts those buyers in a tough spot.
Any words of advice? I already have 3% off negotiated but I feel like that wouldn't even cover the depreciation between the two model years.

Right but when it comes to resell my car will be a 2012 when I can wait another 3 months and it will be a 2013. That's the part i'm upset about it. Having it take a further hit after just 3 months.

Yep it sucks... but if you look at the 996 and 997 that was worse... in 2005 both generations of the same variants were for sale.
Imagen being one of those whom didn't know a new model was coming out...
Guess it comes down to personal preference, have your 991 for the whole summer or at the end.
This gets worse if you live in a climate where you store your 911 for the winter months.
It's too late now just enjoy that beauty and know you're one of the very few to be driving it around while others wait in frustration.
Cheers!

It depends on whether the 2012 vs 2013 cars are different, and how long you plan to keep the car. If the car is the same, and you plan to keep it for several years, the gap in value of the car won't be as much.

I could care less about the steering. Seems like it's such a big deal to everyone but I test drove one without the power steering plus and it was just fine to my liking.
I'm more annoyed that a 2013 vehicle is being released so early in 2012 and only a short few months after I take delivery.
Nothing I can do I guess.
Funny, my new 2012 cab (S) has very different steering feel from the first launch coupes. It is almost exactly like the hydraulic steering of the 997.
Somehow it has changed.... a response to the press criticism ?
I think it is much "heavier" and I have no complaints.
BTW. This is my 7th 911 so I'm no dummy.

To make matters worse, the 2012 911s are both 997s and 991s.
you would think it would have made sense to bring out the 991 in the turbo and GT-2 first, build demand for the new generation while selling down the old one and then trickle it down through the ranks. No one is buying a GTS, GT-2/3 or Turbo in the 997 variant now unless there are deep discounts.
Then again BMW has a history (with the 3 series) of changing the coupe generation, but not the sedan at the same time... Those wacky germans

That sucks, OP since you havent picked up yet i would tell them you want a 2013.
I dont think the price will be much different in resale.
