No, but I thought of that. I figured (maybe incorrectly) that there are more 997 guys in the 991 section than vice versa.

I think we have enough votes now to conclude that 991 guys are much more likely to prefer PDK than 997 guys.
That's what I suspected, since 997 guys appear to lean towards simpler cars which interact more with the driver, whereas 991 guys appear to lean towards high-tech performance and comfort. These are generalities and tendencies, so of course there are exceptions.
As I've noted elsewhere, I think 991 guys should also give serious consideration the new GT-R.

Could be, but the PDK in the 997 is still among the best automated transmissions out there, IMO.

BTW, if you want to sell GT-R's, I suggest you contact Larry. It sounds like he can steer you to about five dealerships that need better marketing.

Not necessarily, if we can refer to an earlier discussion in this forum it may be that the 997 guys are the "purists" and the 991 guys are the "progressives". IMHO, the progressives are, to quote Larry, "moving forward with Porsche" while the purists are ?????

I guess purists are not moving forward with Porsche. It can happen, as was the case when BMW started going hi-tech as well. And to broaden the comparison further, in my experience guitars especially stand out as an area where older is perhaps usually considered better.
It's unfortunate that GT-Rs aren't easy to find and test drive. I'm dying to try a 2013. The 2009 I tried was crazy (in a mostly good way), and the 2013 is reported to be even better.

Bought a new 2012 997 S PDK Cab in Nov. My decision had nothing to do with how I felt about the 991. It was all about cost and timing. I think the 991 is a wonderful car but so is my 997. You guys make much ado about nothing. I bought my 996 new in 1999 and kept it for 12 years. Will I ever get a 991? Not likely it will probably be a 991B.

Aren't we saying the same thing, in different words?
Very likely, probably just a different bias.

I don't know anything about guitars, but I agree that there are many products that stopped improving in the past. Often, they would be those that require hand craftsmanship (too expensive now) that can not be duplicated, or exceeded, by advanced manufacturing methods. I suppose that, in some cases, people perceive that they old models are better simply because they are hand crafted. Guitars, maybe? Cars, probably not.

If I could have many cars at once, I'd want variety, and I think the GT-R would very likely have a place. But if I limit myself to one or two cars at a time, choosing becomes much more difficult because no car can have it all - there are always tradeoffs. So far, I like my 997 more than anything else I've tried. I was hoping that the 991 would give me an excuse to switch to something different, but the current 991 variants haven't been able to unseat the 997. And as good as it is, I don't think the 2013 GT-R could unseat my 997 either. But it's not impossible that I'd choose a GT-R over the 991, if those were my only options (would likely be a very difficult decision).
