My 991 mods
My 991 mods
After a few months I decided it was time to personalize my 991 cab. I had the wheels painted basalt black to match the paint. The car was lowered with H & R springs, the calipers were powdercoated metallic green, the 911 logo as well. I had an escort 9500ci installed as well with sensors in front grill and on back of car. I have the pse which sounds great so no tubi or fabspeed needed. Overall, I am very happy with the car. I added some iphone pics. I will try and add some better ones as well as ones of the radar install inside. Next up, the engine...
Not a bad idea...I was thinking about tinting them along with the rear lights and the clear side markers, but the led rear lights look so nice at night. I left the hrome tips and the porsche name on back alone just to leave a little shine..and it also compliments the rotors. What I don't care for is the space in the middle of the front bumper ( where euro tag would go)......waiting for options there.
I like the sinister look, very nice!!
Could you please give us your impressions of the H&R lowering springs?
How's the ride quality compared to the std suspension. Would you recommend the swap?

I am interested in you thoughts on the H&Rs, as well. I am thinking about adding them but I am concerned about too harsh of a ride and the accelerated wear on the stock shocks cause by shorter springs.

Looking forward to get some aditional feedback of the H&Rs.
At first it didn't feel much different. I think I was just happy to have my car back. Now after driving it for a week with the new springs I can definitely feel the difference. The stock suspension had what I perceived as a looser even more luxury like feel than previous models. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but it took a little bit away of what I call a Porsche purist feel. With the h&r springs it feels much more Porsche like. It is definitely a little stiffer, but not nearly as stiff as they were on my '07 997 which was a turbo if that makes a difference. You can definitely feel the road. You can feel the bumps and imperfections in the asphalt more than before. I am in Florida so most roads are flat and pretty smooth. You feel more connected to the wheel as the car feels a little more responsive, even when changing lanes or taking an exit ramp. Overall I am very happy with the change.

@ Broadstreet.....How do you like the stance now?.....I'm interested in the H&R due to the front being .2 inches lower....which I think this car needs.
Any other side pics? ... hard to see the stance in those pics

I think you need to call it 'Dark Knight'. I like the green pieces, but you need to get rid of the 'PORSCHE' to do it right (which might require moving the '911' up a little bit). A little bit of contrasting color parts is great as long as it's in moderation, and yours does exactly that. Other than passing a 918 Edition TurboS, nothing will look like yours at all.
@ BrandonH...I took some higher quality photos, of course it rained and car is not real clean but it should give you a better look at the stance you requested. I also included some shots of the inside where the radar was installed, the indicator light for the radar on dash to the left of tach, and the remote control mounted on dash next to steering column. Let's see if can figure out this photobucket...here it goes.

I have a basalt cab as well, with sport design wheels. I have considered getting them powder coated matching the paint but don't know much about the process.
I have spoken to my Porsche dealership about this and they have advised against it because the paint will chip off over time. Could you elaborate a bit more about you're experience with this? Has anyone else here powder coated their wheels?
I have powder coated my wheels in the past, but just gloss black. The finish looked great, it had a real deep shine. That being said, they do scratch and you really can't get the scratches out. This time, I was advised to paint them basalt black. They came out great. As far as chips, as long as the correct primer is done first, you shouldn't have a problem. Remember, it is paint, so scratches can be buffed out, you can and should put a protective wax on them, etc. It should be less expensive to paint than to powder coat. I have had part of my cayenne wheels painted black about 7 months ago. No chips or scratches on those as of now. Let's see if I can post a pic of them as I am on my iPad but I will try. These came grey and aluminum from factory, now as you can see they are black and aluminum.
