Another day at the track!

PCA came to Salt Lake City last week, and we had a fun day at the Miller Motorsports Park track. We were on the East half of the track. I had the pleasure of driving with Bob Jones (long time PCA club racer) as my instructor. It was his first time in the 991, and he was VERY impressed. He thought the car was VERY fast.

Part of my last session on youtube:
Fun to view full screen and then select HD (720p or 1080) in the bottom corner settings button.

Nicely done! You look very smooth! Miller is such a great track. I ran the full track for the 3 day DE held in conjunction with the Club Race in June and can't wait to get back again. Best,

Nice car and video! Congrats!
How 'flat' did the PDCC feel compared to previous experiences?

It is very "flat." Between the 3rd and 4th sessions I went with my instructor in his older 911 (I don't know which generation - it is the yellow one I pull up behind at the end of the video. That is his daily driver because he couldn't bring his track car out for some reason). His car had a lot of roll, and after being in mine, it was a little scary at first. I definitely prefer the flatter ride. It is easier to stay in your seat when the car isn't tipping and trying to dump you out. You can see in my video how the horizon doesn't tilt much in the corners.

OP: Nice video -- you drive a smooth and proper line. Though without a speedo in the camera view, it's hard to tell how fast you're going

Any problems with brake fade? I just learned that unfortunately the Pagids won't be available until the end of the year...

Thanks! The squealing tires and the speed at which I lapped other cars lets you know I was going at a good clip....

The brakes never fade. They are absolutely incredible. I was on the west track earlier in the year, and it is harder on the brakes. They never faded there either. I don't know how many track days I can get before I need to replace the pads though....

Awesome video, Rick. I'll have to meet up with you and Jason some time at Miller to test out my new 991.

I was just thinking that in all these videos that I've looked at, I've never seen anyone pass a 991. Did I miss something? It just seems like it's in a different league- and the 1.24 numbers seem to confirm it.

When I'm talking to other drivers at the track, I joke that the 991 is a "cheater car." I think a lot of the advantage that cars like the Caymen had over the 911 on a track with a lot of turns has been reduced or eliminated. However, a much better driver will still beat me. On my first track day earlier this year, I lead out the last session for the red group. It took about 15 minutes, but the 997 driver behind me finally caught me and I let him pass. After he went by me, I was able to see that his line in a couple turns was much better than mine, and I learned a lot by following him. But if you have two similar skill levels, there is no question that the 991 will easily beat the 997, assuming similar HP and tires.

It looks like it's on rails! I'm sure you still feel like you're on the edge, but it sure doesn't look like that.
