Brake Dust Cleaning Question
I don't like squealing also, so I'll be sure and ask them to put some anti-squeal on the back of the pads. We'll see what they say about that.

Have a search using Google. I found a very nice thread on some forum (sorry don't have the link but you should be able to find it) where some guy went to a lot of trouble of testing this and one or two other products in a real World scientific manner (like applying to half a mag - with the other half not treated and testing for a few 100 miles taking photos and also commenting on ease of cleaning).
I have a Merc with a real bad brake dust problem on the front and was interested - that is why I looked into it.
The result of this guys testing however was very clear and convincing: Save your money.
Best way to clean: Get a nice toilet brush. Works great and is quick - even using only water.

If it was only limited to the wheels, I would put up with it. My issue is that it gets all over the side of the car and I'm concerned when I take it off I'll scratch the paint.

I had the front pads replaced today with the low dust Centric pads (couldn't do the back ones as they were the wrong size). They get replaced by removing the two bolts that hold the caliper to the strut and a small bolt which holds the connection of the flex tube and stiff tube to the strut (see picture). There appear to be two locating bolts with odd heads that go through the pads (the silver looking ones in the first picture), but they do not get removed. Once the caliper is removed, it is simple to remove the pads. The bolts that hold the caliper were torqued at 42 ft. lbs.
The 25 mile ride home was uneventful. I only noticed a very slight reduction in initial grab during braking (it might even be better as I personally think the OEM pads bite too much on initial application). The other characteristic I found is that there is a noticeable reduction in drag during coast-down. This means the gas mileage might even be better!
