I posted the lap times on another sub-forum...

Did anybody notice the lap time difference between the GT500 and the 991S?

It is quite an achievement for the 991S! The cars in the test group are pretty stout even though last year's winner the Ferrari 458 Italia is not included. A 991S beating the McLaren MP4-12C on the track - there are a bunch of McLaren owners ready to sue Motor Trend!!!

Eh... The McLaren didn't technically lose on track to a 911S, it is just the opinion of a group of people. Sure, some may disagree, but the article did its purpose.

I think the piece on the 911S is surprisingly articulate. It is pretty cool to see the high praise of a car, given all of the negative press the electronic steering received, and the PDK being the (dual clutch) transmission that enthusiasts are not allowed to like.

Of course, though, I have my conspiracy theories... Enough 'incentive' and I'll say what you want me to about a car also.

I'm actually surprised the BRZ didn't win. Given the criteria, there was an avenue of victory for the most affordable car. I am looking forward to the turbocharged version (aren't we all?).

I'd still prefer the McLaren over all of those cars.

Thanks for posting -- this was a very good read. BTW the New York Times and Top Gear have also both called it the best sports car in the world (as a complete package).

The word from the article that stands out most to me as summarizing the 991S on track is "grace." The car just zips along with no drama.

Personally, if I could drive one other car from that list, it would be the McLaren. I just love the engineering behind it and think the looks are just *exy enough without being overly flashy (though I'm sure many would disagree).

Finally, not to get off topic but this kind of high praise gets me very excited to see what Porsche can achieve with the 918. Yes it is a heavy car right now but so is the GT-R and anyone who's been on a track with one of those in the rearview knows they will be sticking their arm out the window soon.

You are right that the Porsche technically did not beat the McLaren on the track. It is a subjective opinion but nevertheless a high achievement for the 991S.

Just as you still like the Mac, the fact that the Aventador finished dead last in this comparison doesn't change one bit how much I want that car!

The fact is that most people can not get these cars anywhere close to the limit so what each person finds best is clearly subjective. My wife would most likely prefer the Jag while I am a Porsche fan.

You can't play down the arrival factor of the Lambo, or the outrageousness of this car. I was thinking the other day that, while I sometimes walk the line, I have led my whole life being correct in leading a clean organized life with no real slip-ups; often in the past working the 80+ hr work week. I would bet that most people who can afford these toys are most likely the same, so the Lambo offers us a chance to feel like a real BAD BOY............ If it puts a smile on your face it may be worth the price of admission.

It would have been interesting to throw the new Boxster S in the mix as well.

One of my friends has the new 911, a new GT3 RS 4.0, and the Lexus LFA. He says the LFA is hands down, the best car he has ever driven at the track. Too bad Motor Trend didn't include the LFA in this contest. I would have loved a 3rd party comparison.

YES! I wonder why it didn't make it to the finals... Perhaps only one car per manufacturer can make it to the finals, and the 911S was voted in???

(see my conspiracy theory for more ideas why)

The LF-A is not new or refreshed for 2012. But what do you mean 3rd party? Motor Trend is sort a 3rd party, no?

deucequattro is infamous around these parts
I just read this article not too long ago also. Stunning results especially coming from the group of cars the Porsche ran against; that Lambo. Mercy, mercy me.
