Cup condensation drip solution

I've been very annoyed for some time that my cold drink cup sweats and drips on my center console and carpet. I think I have found a solution.

I ordered a drink cup holder for a 2011 Ford Fusion and modified it to fit. It's a rubber item that comes with two holders connected at the top. First, I cut the center tab at the top making two identical holders with a tab on the top and tried it to fit it in the Porsche holder. It was too tight to be in there and fit the cup into it. So I cut down the sides of the holder to within 1/4" of the bottom. Then I cut around the bottom of the cup, leaving the tab coming up the side so it would fit in a slot at the top of the Porsche holder. That provides enough structure to hold the rubber insert to the holder. The insert can easily be installed and removed for cleaning and when you want to put the Porsche cup holder away. The inserts can easily be cut with scissors. Pictures are provided including the Ford part number tab. I've done some preliminary testing and I find it's easy to get the cup in and out. We'll soon see if it captures the moisture effectively. The price of the Ford part is $25.

Nice one Chuck.
That said, ya could always just put a "starbucks sleeve" (corrugated cardboard strip) it's normally for hot drinks but it works like a charm to deal with the condensation dripping of cold drinks.

Huhhhh...why?
I would agree with eating (messy and distracting) but drinking... what that double espresso or bottle of water is suppose to inhibit my capacity to drive?
No way, you can pry my coffee from my cold dead hands (love that line)!

I love Porsche (as everyone must know by now), but sometimes the Porsche engineers have taken a long time to come around to creature comforts; like door lock chirp, drink holders, good heaters, air conditioners, easy entry systems, electric windows, carpet, etc.). But eventually, they always come around.

PS Yep, Charlton Heston was a hoot!

Ya, I'm too busy driving to drink. Plus I don't want to smell up the cabin.

Thumbs up I would patent it...lol

ChuckJ-

That is a most eloquent solution for something that plagues all 911's. I would not be surprised if the Kraut's adopt a similar product and apply it to future products.

I don't care to have food or beverages in mine either, and the door lock chirp-the flashing lights are enough for me!

Clever solution. I use my car everyday. So it goes thru the car wash, I eat and drink in it, transport kids in it, drive it in winter. I am the ulitmate sinner. Then let someone clean it a couple of times a month. So good for you.

I find the best solution is a Jack Daniels bottle. Being square it doesn't roll around. And fits nicely behind the passenger seat.

Thanks for the kind words, but I don't think they will rush to produce it.... It has a fatal flaw that you have to remove the rubber insert to store the holder. That said, it is easy to remove and store and most of the time I leave the holder out anyway.

bravo, Chuck. The other issue is the holder is not deep enough to keep the wobble out of most travel mugs. This was probably intentional though, as it prompted me to go and buy the "porsche" stainless mug that fits perfectly. I'm with Sid, though, i have to have my black eye on the road with me every morning (coffee with 2 espresso shots added for the non-strbks initiated!). incidentally, I love my MT but it certainly has hindered my drinking while driving!

Thanks ChuckJ! While I might not go to that solution I have noted the same problem. Very annoying!

Never have a problem with condensation. Does it take you that long to drink your beer?

I'm probably the only one that hadn't noticed it, but the cup holder has a micro ratchet. I figured out that you can tighten up your cup considerably by gently pushing on the arrow on the right after you put the cup in the holder. It will make one or two clicks and then hold significantly better. When you remove the cup, it will ratchet out one or two notches making it easy to put the cup back in. It's become second nature to me now. It locks it in enough that it holds my rather tall bottle in at least .7 g conditions which is all I've tried so far.

Hahahaha only here will the G-forces ever be mentioned in the same sentence as a cup holder!

BTW I haven't heard anyone else mention this so you may be the first to discover this... so from now it will be called "the Chuck G-force clip"!
Man I can't wait to find out for myself how many G's this thing will take!
