Cup condensation drip solution
Cup condensation drip solution
I've been very annoyed for some time that my cold drink cup sweats and drips on my center console and carpet. I think I have found a solution.
I ordered a drink cup holder for a 2011 Ford Fusion and modified it to fit. It's a rubber item that comes with two holders connected at the top. First, I cut the center tab at the top making two identical holders with a tab on the top and tried it to fit it in the Porsche holder. It was too tight to be in there and fit the cup into it. So I cut down the sides of the holder to within 1/4" of the bottom. Then I cut around the bottom of the cup, leaving the tab coming up the side so it would fit in a slot at the top of the Porsche holder. That provides enough structure to hold the rubber insert to the holder. The insert can easily be installed and removed for cleaning and when you want to put the Porsche cup holder away. The inserts can easily be cut with scissors. Pictures are provided including the Ford part number tab. I've done some preliminary testing and I find it's easy to get the cup in and out. We'll soon see if it captures the moisture effectively. The price of the Ford part is $25.

Nice one Chuck.
That said, ya could always just put a "starbucks sleeve" (corrugated cardboard strip) it's normally for hot drinks but it works like a charm to deal with the condensation dripping of cold drinks.
Huhhhh...why?
I would agree with eating (messy and distracting) but drinking... what that double espresso or bottle of water is suppose to inhibit my capacity to drive?
No way, you can pry my coffee from my cold dead hands (love that line)!

ChuckJ-
That is a most eloquent solution for something that plagues all 911's. I would not be surprised if the Kraut's adopt a similar product and apply it to future products.

Clever solution. I use my car everyday. So it goes thru the car wash, I eat and drink in it, transport kids in it, drive it in winter. I am the ulitmate sinner. Then let someone clean it a couple of times a month. So good for you.
I find the best solution is a Jack Daniels bottle. Being square it doesn't roll around. And fits nicely behind the passenger seat.

bravo, Chuck. The other issue is the holder is not deep enough to keep the wobble out of most travel mugs. This was probably intentional though, as it prompted me to go and buy the "porsche" stainless mug that fits perfectly. I'm with Sid, though, i have to have my black eye on the road with me every morning (coffee with 2 espresso shots added for the non-strbks initiated!). incidentally, I love my MT but it certainly has hindered my drinking while driving!
I'm probably the only one that hadn't noticed it, but the cup holder has a micro ratchet. I figured out that you can tighten up your cup considerably by gently pushing on the arrow on the right after you put the cup in the holder. It will make one or two clicks and then hold significantly better. When you remove the cup, it will ratchet out one or two notches making it easy to put the cup back in. It's become second nature to me now. It locks it in enough that it holds my rather tall bottle in at least .7 g conditions which is all I've tried so far.

BTW I haven't heard anyone else mention this so you may be the first to discover this... so from now it will be called "the Chuck G-force clip"!

Man I can't wait to find out for myself how many G's this thing will take!
