Porsche dealer charging for factory recall?? Ridiculous

Do Porsche dealers typically charge for removing aftermarket parts when performing a factory recall?? I'm pissed that Stevens Creek Porsche would ask for $250 to remove a Techart wing to perform a factory recall. Its not my fault that this issue was not caught before I bought the car... I bought a defective car and Porsche should fix it at no charge.. I haven't had good experiences servicing my cars at Stevens Creek Porsche and will look for another place to get it fixed.

I am having a hard time imagining why a wing would need to be removed for a recall. What is the recall?

That doesn't seem like something that would warrant any additional charge.

I think it would depend on what needs to be done. If the wing needs to be removed in order to do the recall, then yes, that is additional work that the dealer has to do. So if the recall takes two hours to do, but with the wing removal it takes three, then you would have to pay for it.

Dealers only get a set amount of $$$ from Porsche to perform a recall,....if they can't do it in the time allowed, they lose that money if they don't charge for it.

Now having said that,....it would be interesting to know why they actually have to remove the wing in order to do the recall,....and how long it actually takes to remove the wing. The last I remember an hour of labor can be anywhere between $100 ~ $150, (maybe more now) so that should clue you in on how much it really may be.

I brought it to Stevens Creek Porsche for the PDK change-over valve repair... this is the 6th recall item on the car... they have to remove the wing to remove the bumper...

I think that its baloney that they would charge so much since they would probably have to remove the factory wing as well.. I dont want to pay them to learn how to take off the wing.

It should be a fairly simple job.. there are two bolts under the bonnet, few bolts under the third brake light and 4 bolts holding the wing on the base.. piece of pie..

I haven't had great experiences at Stevens Creek.. so will take my car to another dealer. They scratched my painted rim the last time I had them change my tires and they didnt want to take responsibility because it was painted.. I sucked it up and didnt complain too much but this time I'm pissed because they couldn't spend the little time as a courtesy...

Just curious -- did you buy the car from this dealer? Is this an aftermarket part that the dealer installed, or did you have it done somewhere else?

I'm not saying I agree with the dealership on this, but I can certainly understand why they'd take that position. I would assume that they probably don't want to deal with aftermarket parts at all, both in terms of being uncertain on how to remove the part (as you said, it's probably very easy) and the uncertain liability if they damage it somehow.

There are several Porsche Dealers in the SF Bay Area, and some are known to be more conservative than others when it comes to aftermarket parts and mods in general. On this point, I've heard that Stevens Creek Porsche tends more towards the conservative side. Of course, you are always free (and should) take your business elsewhere if they won't accommodate your needs.

As an aside -- if it's so easy to do, have you considered removing the wing yourself and not having them deal with it at all? Good luck with the repair.

perhaps it's time to search out another dealer...all Porsche dealers honor the warranty. Because a large percentage of Porsche dealer new car sales are repeat customers, I am sure that another dealer would love to scoop you up as a satisfied customer and potential future car buyer.

I had some spacers and clear turn signals I purchased from Suncoast (my dealer had neither in stock) at the time of new car delivery. My dealer put those parts on for me. While I was prepared to pay for that service, they did not charge me and that is something I will always remember. Cost them nothing, gained them a lot.

maybe the charge its over the top at 250 but i can see why they would charge you to remove an aftermarket part. that was not part of the original car and they should not be responsible for that labor. either take it to another dealer who charges more reasonably or if it's really a piece of pie then take it off yourself before service

It didn't cost them nothing to put the parts on your car......

Cost them something, gained them something....
