Oil leak

I took my 991S in for service. About 5,200 miles. Still some interior issues, another oil change (did first at 700 miles - can't have new enough oil) and an odd fix - my hood (over the engine) would not open. I understood that there were two "campaigns" that needed to be done. But they were supposedly mostly reprogramming.

Got a call today that during one of these "upgrades" they found an oil leak. Parts are now coming from Germany, they need to drop the engine, and I am in a very so so loaner until at least the middle of next week anyone hear of anything like this?

I have asked for a detailed explaination of what is wrong and I have been promised that they will provide one. Any ideas?

Havent heard of anything yet. It would seem odd if something was messed up during an oil change though.

14500 kms on mine. No oil change yet. But I am getting service message to get one done at 15000 kms as recommended by dealer. No oil leak for me, and have never heard of such issue. An oil leak should not be happening in a brand new car in its first year. You are justified in being ticked off. Keep us updated.

Sorry to hear this is happening!
Man I HATE oil leaks and squeaky sounds!
One of the reasons to pay that premium for a brand new car is to not have to deal with these types of issues...

That said...this sounds fishy.
I'm sure you would've seen some evidence of this "oil leak" prior to bringing it in...
Also seems odd they can't give you a definitive (or even aproximate) cause or location of this leak.
Maybe a newbie mechanic was put on the oil change and over filled it, took it for a long/hard test drive and the oil is spilling out of places it's not suppose to.

Dropping the engine seems extreme for an oil leak without any previous drips or spills, never mind on a brand new car.

If they don't become more transparent I'd talk to a lawyer, oh wait...
Btw what kind of loaner did ya get?

It all depends on where the leak is,...some might require an engine drop. Since this is the first one I have heard of for a 991 not quite panic mode yet, but I can see the frustration.

Just get a good explanation and let us know what was fixed and what parts were needed,...those will be good clues.

Here's hoping you get your car back soon....

Sorry AG! A couple of people on this forum have done there own oil changes. Perhaps they could weigh in on whether they could have screwed anything up with the filter change or input of the new oil in terms of adding too much to early, turning the engine on and blowing a seal.

Again, I feel your pain (having gone through the cooling failure) and hope it gets resolved quickly.

My car is STILL IN THE SHOP!!! They had to put in new wiring harness, a new TCM, fix an oil leak and it has been two weeks since I brought it in for an oil change, interior rattles, buffeting and a few "campaigns." And they are being very evasive. I have asked for an explanation and a warranty extension. But no answers yet.

Anyone else have this issue?

Yeezzzzz I can't believe you still don't have your ride back.
Did they at least give you a nice loaner?

I guess those recal campaigns had to be done... but this oil leak... and then to take this long?

Had something similar happen to me, when I got the run around I walked into the GM's office, closed the door behind me and told him "I'm not leaving until I get some answers"... that did the trick.

Sorry to hear my friend.

it is frustrating and my car(2012 991s) has some small issues as well but the main thing is we bought these cars on their first year and issues will be worked out.

I have not visited the dealer yet but I am keeping a list of the little things they will need to attend to ... big picture is nothing major, just some minor things that will be resolved in a trip to the dealer.

I know they will keep it for days which is torture so I will wait until I HAVE TO bring it in.

BUT OTOH to demand an extended warranty because of it ... I am sorry ... cars have issues which we have warranties to cover ... it sucks but it is the way it goes.

I have followed your journey with your car and appreciate it but in the end cars can have problems and again it sucks but it is what it is.

AG, I just read your update. I feel for you. How much longer will it be in the shop? Have you seen it in person recently? If you feel the dealer is being evasive it may be time to put in a call into PCNA.

Hey AG991,

So sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your car. Hopefully it will be fixed to your satisfaction. I have to say I have a March/12 production 991 with 5300kms and it has been performing flawlessly. Sometimes these crazy things happen hang in there we all feel for you. I know how excited you were when you first got the car.

Sorry to hear about the oil leak. I tracked my cab for 4 DE days and did not have oil leak or oil consumption, so maybe it's just bad parts on your car.

I appreciate your opinion on this. And I agree there is a cost to being the first kid on the block. But it does not hurt to ask them for the extension - them or me. Moreover, this is not just any car. I have higher expectations. The reason I have those expectations is because they have repeatedly told me, and everyone else, that we should! Time to live up to the German engineering hype.
