Surprise order
Surprise order
So I got home from work today and my wife tells me that the dealer called and said my car should be here at the end of Dec! So of course I'm over the top excited, for about 30 seconds. Then reality comes back to me and I realize I never put in an order!!
LONG story short, I was at the dealer about a month ago and worked on a build, got a discount negotiated and left saying we'd be in touch soon to work out the final details of the build and stuff. Never once believing we were done. Well somewhere along the way they got confused and that build became an official order. So the call tonight was to say that it was put in a couple of weeks ago, and tomorrow it locks. So do you want to make any changes???
Wow, what a roller coaster of emotions!! The wife and I had worked a financial plan for the car and were not going to order till Dec or Jan for a Jan or Feb delivery. So you can imagine my delimma. Do i just say ok whatever so I can have it for a Xmas present or do I stick to my guns and say no I need to wait and stick to our plan. Not to mention I had made some changes to the build since I was at the dealer.
After a couple of long calls with the dealer I gave my Slot back to them and am going to stick to my original plan and order in a Dec or Jan, but oh was that such a hard decision to make!!!

I don't get this story. Your dealer ordered a car with a simple verbal "agreement?"
Personally, I'd avoid ordering cars to get delivered during winter season (personal preference) but if this is the car you'd spec. in December, I'd go for it.

Wow, tough crowd. I agree it's a confusing story, I'll try to take another whack at it
. When discussing potential pricing I asked how long this particular offer would be good for as I wasn't sure exactly which month I wanted to put the order in. At that point they offered to "write it up" so I would feel comfortable the deal wouldn't change when I came back to place the order. Part of the offer was what the deposit would be, how much down, loan type, etc...
Of course I dont know for sure what happened but I guess somehow that 'offer\build' made it into the wrong pile and whoever puts in the orders just sent it thru thinking it was a finished deal?
Either way I wasn't posting this story to complain, I just thought it was a interesting story and wanted to share it with the group. As everyone here always writes to say how excited they are when their builds go in, it seemed to me this group in particular would understand how hearing 'your car' was already ordered and would be here by Xmas would come as a shock if you had not actually placed an order and gotten a call like I did.

Sorry about that. I just didn't understand, but now it makes more sense. I gave you a rep point to smooth things over.
I'm glad that little mistake worked in your favor
- even if you gave the slot back to them. Did they catch the mistake or did you tell them that no contract was signed?
Good luck and let us know about any new developments.

The only way we knew was because they just happened to call tonight to let us know they put in the order a couple of weeks ago. If they hadn't of called tonight the order would have been locked tomorrow and the car would have showed up in Dec.
in the end it all worked out for both sides and we will 'start over' with a new build pretty soon incorporating the changes I have made since our original meeting.

Just FWIW, my dealer did the same thing... I went in, spoke with them, spec'd out the car and they gave me a quote. I told them, I would need to think about it. A few days later, got a call from them asked me to stop by and we would talk more. So I did, they lowered the price and I said I still wasn't sure. But, at that point the manager told the sale guy go ahead and secure the slot, put it as customer's build with my name. He said, well, they want to 1. meet the year end quota 2. sure I would be back and finalize the deal (because the deal was so good lol) 3. the car I spec'd was nice enough for inventory anyway if I decided to walk away.
Sucker me, I did go back a week later, talked them down a bit more and signed my life away

The plan was never to buy a December delivery. I was planning Jan or Feb delivery. That's one of the reasons I was so surprised to get the call saying it was already ordered and scheduled to Dec delivery.
