For those who ordered the 5mm spacers ...

Hello,

I finalized my order few weeks ago which is due to freeze on the 27th of this month. My only concerns at the moment is the 5mm spacer i ordered! Do you recommend it? Does it show a difference ? Any issues with the driving quality specially at higher speeds?

Please advise

Yes. Yes (positive). No. There are threads on going for thicker spacers and whether they look better(personal preference)/introduce risk to the paint. You might want to check them out.

Dont be concerned, its a subtle difference but worth every penny, No issues in driving characteristics. I wouldnt go further than OE 5mm.

Is it worth the price though at $490 a set? H&R is a well known brand and I believe 5mm spacers are around $120/set.

Make sure for $120/set it includes the longer studs, read the fine print.

You're right, I should be more clear. The vendor forum already has a listing for the H&R ones although I think I have seen cheaper than $160/set (+ ~$100ish for bolts): (although these are 7mm ones)

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...s-spacers.html

But still beats the $490 factory set by a lot. The porsche ones are really expensive.

IMO there's a reason Porsche offers 5mm...anything above this may have a side effect (aesthetic or functional...)

I can't say I've ever seen a car with the spacers, or didn't realize it. If I understand correctly they make the car look a little wider, by pushing the wheels out 5mm. Is that correct?

+1

I did consider them, didn't get them, don't miss them, car looks good without them.... could it look better with them? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder my friend

Get them if you like but I wouldn't go past 5mm as the amount of crud that the wheels will throw up will scuff/speckle your paintwork.

That was just an example. There's 5mm available as well. Was using it as an example of the price difference between the Porsche one and the H&R which is a top brand. I'd rather use the difference on another option.

Yeah everything is relative... that said I personally believe that putting spacers is arguably one of the most under-rated mods around (both esthetically and performance/feel wise).

I LOVE the way it looks with the tires pushed out as far as they will go, it's amazing how much wider the car looks and how much more "solid" it feels.
I'm planing to put 14mm in the back and 7mm in front.
That said, you are right that it can cause some "sand blasting" issues on the paint... but a clear film (3M or X-pel) around the wheel arches takes care of that.

Well, I'm going to take your opinion and rec but only to 5mm. I'll get them done on Monday when the car goes in for an oil change and if the dealer has them in stock. Longer and wider may be better in some circles but... Oops this is getting risqué ! In your case 14mm !!

I had horrid sand blasting issues with my 997.2 GT3 and being **** about scratches etc. didn't help.

Hahahaha don't worry 14mm in back doesn't look like one of those "riced out" slammed rides.

It has to look aggressive but classy, sexy but sleek...
The main thing is that the tire/wheel sits just inside the body (at the top).
I'm pretty much the same (****) about scratches, sand blasting, that's why I used film around my wheel wells and the entire side-skirts (those are the first to "go" without film).

But the wheels on the 991 do sit much more flush to the body than the 996/997 did.

Either way spacers are an easy thing to add or remove.

I'm just jesting but I do think its worth a go and will get them put on ASAP. Next time I'm heading up towards my clearguard installer I'm going to have him do the side skirts.

Latest eta on your car?
