Discounts, lease rates...same old arghhh!
Discounts, lease rates...same old arghhh!
Just noticed that 6 of the latest 15 threads are about the same old and extremely boring (to me) title subject.
I guess its ok for those who want to beat the issues to death. However, for a bunch of us it's little to do with the core matters of this section of the forum... the 991.
So here's a suggestion to the moderators. Please create a seperate section for all things finance, discounts, and dealer screwing!
Flame suit is on!

Flames to you Haku (with an added Molotov c0cktail for good measure)!!
How dare you insinuate that we not flog this dead horse some more.
Perhaps an ongoing poll where we can all vote for the discounts that we received to date. Ranges would be 1~2, 3~4...up to 10% and 10%+ for the more well endowed.
Just a thought for a possible sticky..

Hehehehe..... love the idea of a poll... the "mine's bigger than yours" will be popular I'm sure
Had to respond to this post even though I am loathe to post online.
As a recent first time buyer of a new 991, I found this forum to be full of great info that proved to very, very helpful on option choices, recalls, clear bras, wheel and tire insurance...and discounts/lease rates, etc. All of these bits and pieces of information helped me tremendously so I am appreciative of all who post such good data.
The posts that were of absolutely no value in making my decision or in helping me since the purchase were those that were full of travelogue pictures of a single 911--arghhhh! Maybe the moderator should setup a separate spot for folks to post pics of their vehicles (oh wait, I do believe there is a separate thread for posting pics of your vehicle).

I do however take your point and will resist posting travelogues and pictures. You should have mentioned your annoyance earlier mate! Why suffer in silence?

If you get something informative out of highly speculative and questionable posts than perhaps you should call or step into some dealerships and get the info first hand.
Everything else (real or imagined) is highly subjective depending on geographical location, inventory, allocations, nations economy, time of year etc. etc.
See how many of the same people whom say they got 10% discount on a custom ordered build (not from the lot) actually have a 991 in their garage...
As to Haku's picture threads... sounds like someone is suffering from a little envy.
Not just are those picture threads appreciated (for pure visual enjoyment) but also for the fact that someone took the time and effort to share his pride and joy with like minded individuals.
I dare say threads like that are essential to the overall enjoyment of the 991 section... I wish more people were doing it.
I'll tell ya what... I've given Haku rep points for sharing those amazing images with us, let me do the same for you (hope you like red).

If you stop posting pics, I am going to fly out to TN to take pictures of your car and post them myself ; D

But I strongly disagree on point 2. I like to think there are plenty(soon to be owners, car lovers, dreamers, experience owners etc etc) that not only enjoy but also benefit from the pictures.
Speaking for myself, a sucker for details, I find both interior and exterior pictures extremely helpful in evaluating the long and often confusing, not to mention pricy options. The only other way to evaluate those options is at the dealer showroom, I doubt they will appreciate if I show up 4 times a week to study all the little details...
Even if I go to the showroom, chances are most dealer spec their cars with ease of sales mentality, ie fairly unimaginative. It is hard to see most of the exclusive options on the lot. This does not mean I want to have all the crazy and expensive options, sometime I am just curious what some of them looks.
I can never get tired of looking at pictures of 911, but that is just me. ; D
Totally agree on the tidbits you pick up which make your custom ordering decisions so much better. My local dealer only had a few 991's in the showroom, so, seeing posts of pictures was very beneficial. The configurator gives you a "rendering" not nearly as good as a well taken picture of a similar configuration. Please don't stop.
The discount threads are funny to me. People are taken aback from posters who claim double-digit discounts. My perception is that they think that this either "cheapens" their cars worth, or, makes them feel inferior as a negotiator. Personally, I am sure that I didn't get the best possible deal on my new 991. But, this forum did help me stick to my guns and get a fair trade in value and a decent (5%) discount. If someone does better I will not enjoy my new baby one iota less.
Just my opionion...

I'll start by wishing you all a happy thanksgiving!
Ironic but there's a message in it there.... sharing and giving thanks!
Thanks to all for you replies. I too gain a whole lot from this forum. Whether its technical or other 991 related information. I am thankful to all who partake in this forum/community and feel its everyones responsibility to contribute to it rather than just take from it. That's what most of us do. Of course that's what the "Discount posters" do as well, and there's my lesson in all this....so my thanks to you as well.
The point I was trying to make is that certain subjects like discounts get beaten to death and after a while they fall into the realm of just not being "proper". Sort of uncouth. We don't have "mine's bigger than yours" discussions in public do we?
I also believe in keeping personal things personal.... dealer discounts are that and if shared should be done via PM's.
So here's a repeat suggestion. Maybe the moderators could create a section for all things Discounts/Finance where all those interested in displaying their wares and sizes can hang out, hold hands, and feel good.

Being rather new here, I see many topics repeated at nauseam. My new Porsche will be my 6th and probably a 991, but only my second 911. The first one was a '74 911T.
I enjoy most topics including lots of pictures, and most things finance/discount, and I, for one, hope the moderators don't become subject police, and isolate topics.
For that I have a:

Agreed on point one. We all come here for different reason. It is a great resource for first time buyer. If I knew about this forum before I bought my first 911, I am 100% SURE I would have ordered a much better car, infact, a different trim. At that time, I knew nothing about 911 or Porsche and the only info I have is what the salesman told me.
But I strongly disagree on point 2. I like to think there are plenty(soon to be owners, car lovers, dreamers, experience owners etc etc) that not only enjoy but also benefit from the pictures.

The smiley face on my original post was meant to show that I was only making my second point in jest to reinforce that this forum appears to be for one and all, versus one and a few others.
Please share pics all day long. I actually do like looking at pictures of these cars including the OP's nice looking silver 991.
Come one, come all. Post whatever you like regarding buying, owning or selling a 991. Ignore those posts that you don't have any interest in.

My suggestion was also to make the topic easier for find for those who are interested in it.
I do however take your scroll point would prefer it to over-policing.
Thanks for agreeing with my point number 1 which was the only point I was trying to make. This is an internet forum--come one and come all. My guess is many, many people come here for information ranging from help with builds, recall notices, discounting, financing, AND sharing pictures.

I took your criticism a bit too personally but do agree that I maybe do post too many pics up... it's good to know. I am now better informed and aware.
Let freedom reign!
