Buying a 2012 991S-
Okay, I just took another ride in my manual S.
I say you should go for it. Besides, you know you've already made up your mind.
Now I'm giving you that little push you're searching for -- DO IT!
And please post pictures quickly when you get home with her!

I just did the same thing myself. Picked up a 2012 at a darn good price. The Manual transmission is the best transmission I've driven...and with the hill assist you don't have to worry about rolling backwards when on an incline (which makes it much less stressful).
The only caveat is that the clutch is pretty stiff - if you use it as a daily driver and have a lot of stop-and-go traffic, your left foot will get pretty sore. I personally like the heavy clutch since this is my weekend fun car.

And remember the 4K rule on the drive home!
Awesome deal! Kudos on the manual, I have it and as long as manufacturers keep offering them I will buy them. Be aware that it will feel kind of stiff for the first few hundred miles, the more miles you get the slicker it will get. One of the added bonuses of the start/stop system is even with it turned off, your manual car will still restart instantly if you kill it from a start just by pushing in the clutch again. Makes it easy on manual newbies and can even save an old timer from the occasional embarassment.
I suspect there is some "trunk money" from Porsche to sell out the remaining 12's and you got to take advantage of it, congrats. I did what you're doing once in my life, bought a new car out of state and drove it home, and it's a great adventure!

I have a 2012 991S 7MT also. My advice is PULL THE TRIGGER! The manual gearbox is sublime. The gear change is positive and the clutch is not to heavy. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't have it any other way......
