Production schedule

I got an email from my sales guy today saying that my 911 has begun early stages of production.
Great news!
My question is, what does that mean? My last communication with him was that it was scheduled to be completed on the 10th of Jan 2013. From what I've read on this site, it takes about 5 days to build a car and that Porsche only orders the parts for your car a week at most before they start building. So that is way to early to start a car scheduled for the second week of Jan.

So did my order get moved up to an earlier production date or does "early stages of production" mean something else?

Mine is scheduled to complete production on Jan 14th, so I'm very interested in what's going on also. Hopefully we've been moved up! It seems like since Porsche ran into the moonroof issue, that has happened to quite a few people on the boards.

Likely that the production date of your car has been moved up. It takes about 5 days to complete. I had an almost day by day update from PCNA on what stage the car was at in terms of production. Paint, upholstery, assemble etc.

...primarly depending on the exclusive options, which need to be added in special cases manually but generally the car takes 3 days to get serial produced and completed Sometimes it even happens the factory builds a car earlier than scheduled, this also because of the configuration....they do package same types of configuration e.g. glas sunroofs...

My order got locked way early... dealer told me it's because of the fact that the factory will be closed for the Holidays.
Makes sense.

I shot an email to may sales guy asking for more details. I'll report back when he responds. I don't have any exclusive options on my car, just nomral options you can pick in the configurator.
Either way nice to hear something is happening. The waiting is just painful!

Congratulations, CO997! Here's a great 5 part series on how your 991 will be produced. It's very detailed and probably provides more information than any one person could obtain by visiting the factory. However, someone who has been to the factory lately may be able to provide some updates that may have occurred for the 991. Enjoy.
You can search for 2-5 by replacing the part number in you tube.

Fascinating.... just watched the whole 5 part series. Amazingly complex assembly; so many places for things to go wrong! (knock on wood...)

It still doesn't explain why deviating stitching is so damn expensive though... looks like the people doing the stitching have all colored stitches available within arm's reach!!!

Deviated is a very expensive word. Probably priced using the demand model, similar to the one they used to corner the VW market and drive the price to over $700 during the recession.

It does give one an increased appreciation for the car. If we knew the engineering (including metallurgy) associated with building an engine, we would probably appreciate it even more.

Would you please list your configuration. My car has a completion date of Jan. 23 and I would like to see how my build compares to yours. Maybe mine will be moved up as well.

My car is also supposed to enjoy January 23rd completion date. Ordered October 1/12!
Configuration is:
991S Cab White
PDK
X51 Powerkit
Premium package with 18 way sport seats
Red leather
Sport Design package
Sport Techno wheels
Park assist
Electric folding mirrors
PDCC
Power steering plus
Smoking package
Sport Techno Steering wheel
Dials in white
Sport chrono dial in white
Painted lower mirrors to match
Painted rear apron to match
Vehicle key in white
Key pouch in red leather

Car was originally to be December production and only thing dealer thinks for extra delay is the X51 kit. They haven't been able to tie any closer. Dealer checked yesterday and the 23rd date has stayed constant for 3+ weeks now.

Just got the email from the sales guy. Seems my definition of pre is different than his. Here is the reply.

Sorry for the delay, I had a customer show up when we opened. Looks like the estimated completion date is 1/23/13. Car will probably arrive early February since production got pushed back a tad. I will keep you updated as it comes along.

So instead of getting an earlier date, mine has been pushed later. I will post my build later. I'm out with the family and don't have it on my phone.

My car was in the paint shop last Saturday, and today (uh, OK, looks like yesterday at this point... holiday party and all...) I got an email that the car is finished and about 3 weeks away from delivery. Maybe not the best time of year to be taking delivery, but then again, is there really a bad time? Anyway, mine was about as base of a build as possible (C2S, full leather, manual... when doing test drives, the manual just left me with a smile on my face, which I assumed was a good sign... ).

Going to be a long 3 weeks in any case.

I waited from November to June. A baby only takes a couple more months. The wait is long but worth it.
