My first post here. Greetings from the Blue Mountains, Ontario Canada!

I'm buying my first new 911, trying to decide between the CS and C4S. It seems there's quite a bit of interest in the new '13 C4S.

I'm looking for fun to drive, I won't likely track it, just enjoy it on the roads, I'll drive it in the snow for fun occasionally but have a Cayenne for a winter daily driver.

What would you buy in a new model and for what reasons?

It's my first 911 as well. It's coming in 2 weeks and its 991 4S!

 

C4s, just the wide body itself is worth the entry fees. This is coming from someone with a C2S, grass is always greener on the other side

 

+1, I'm ordering a high loaded base, now the dealer trying to put me on the super loaded 4S in which I can decide later when car arrived and display side by side.

But I'm sure I will then wanted having the turbo after getting 4S, I'll stick with mine.

 

That is cruel. Don't do it, don't look. Next turbo will be one very pricy 911. Ouch. :{=

 

I have a wacked out turbo theory. Drive my C2S for a few years and pick up a used 991tt a couple years after they come out. The C2S is shockingly fast but like all things I am sure I will get used to it.

Park the 991 in the snow and take the Cayanne. You would need snow tires to drive the 991 in the snow. It even gets squirrelly in the cold with the Pirelli's.

 

Hard to go wrong with either. Your fellow Canadian, Sid, will tell you to get a 4. It does have a nice caboose. I have the C2S with PDCC and it is hard to imagine a more planted platform. The performance numbers are about the same but there is a big cost difference. And if the 991 is like the 997 the trunk, such as it is, will be 1/2 the size of the two wheeled version. I take trips in mine and take the wife for weekends and the trunk room is nice.

I don't like any rear wheel car in snow. That said, while the 4wD would be nice, there is sooooo little ground clearance as it is, you could get beached on a snow drift if only a few cm and that would just be embarrassing. And do you want that many loonies exposed to rock salt, grit, ice pot-holes, and the like? If you want the caboose, or the extre grip, fine. Winter driving, only when it is bone dry, clear and clear roads, and only to let it stretch it's legs. Again, JMO!

I like the C2S, puch the gas and you have the rear spinning...

so much fun getting out from a parking to a boulvard.

 

go for the C2 and use the Cayenne for real winters because we know if you get the C4 version, there won't be any snow for the next few years

I went through this dilemma too. other than the distinctive rear taillight bar, 1.73in wider body and wider axles, the main difference is better traction in poor weather and slightly better 0 to 60 time/slightly slower top speed(per pcna website). for most of us, thatperformance difference is meaningless. unless you plan to drive in lots of snowy conditions, the traction issue is probably marginal for most as well...esp if you have an suv already. note that there have been some recent great posts regarding the virtues of c2's in snow also (with alpins). so it comes down to the wide look. besides the price difference, keep in mind that there is a higher maintenance cost potential with the awd over time if you plan to keep the car for a long time. this is a fun problem to have as there is NO bad decision!! good luck.

If you're ordering new and in Canada (as I did) double check production expectation timing. I ordered a C2S Cab on October 1. I went back as i was considering the C4S and delivery would have been delayed several months at least. As it is my production date is January 23 for an October 1 order. You might lose a good part of the nice driving weather waiting for the C4S. I stayed with the C2S. Also price difference is rather immense in Canada.

Like you I have a 4x4 for winter (a Benz though not a cayenne) and I got the C4S cab purely for it's wide rear-end, it's slightly more aggressive stands, wider rubber and because I like the handling (like it's on rails).
The extra security in rain, "mud slides" (no kidding!) or other unforeseen circumstances (fur when zie Germans come ).

Like Snowczar said, there is a 11K premium but I think the wide body alone is worth it.
Many do not agree but that's the great thing about Porsche, it's got something for everyone!

I've ordered a C4S but keep second guessing myself and wondering if I should have ordered a C2S particularly considering the good weather in Sydney! Also the Australian difference between 4 and 2 is over AUD28k!!

Oh, and for everyone thinking cars are expensive, give some sympathy to us Aussies who have to pay AUD312,260 for a C4S manual.
Fortunately I'm moving to the UK and can pay GBP106k, which is just 45% of the Aussie rip off!
