While coasting down a long decline towards a red light I inadvertently blipped the accelerator pedal. Car flawlessly shifted from 6th to 2nd! Wow I was shocked and of course tried it again before turning and again descending into an s curve. Depending on speed it will downshift Three or four gears

You were using the Coasting or "sailing" feature that's in conjunction with Auto-Stop? The car turned the motor off while coasting down the hill?

If so, the blip was the motor starting up, then an instant later it engaged the correct gear for your speed.

If this was true, then he wouldn't have been in Sport, nor Sport +, as both of those deactivate Auto-Stop and Coasting.

 

It works coasting, in Sport and with, coasting off. Just used it on a turnpike off ramp. Car engaged in 7th at 2100rpm to 3rd with a blip.

 

When coasting is engaged the motor is on at idle.

 

That explains my drive on the weekend. I was driving along in 7th gear. I blipped the gas, next thing my car is in 2nd gear. I thought something was wrong. lol
