Fuel door cover?

I am not sure if its an issue with my car or thats in every 991, i used to have a 2008 cayenne and when i lock the doors the fuel cover door locks as well, i noticed from day one that the fuel door does not lock in the 991, am not sure if i have an issue with my fuel door? Or all 991 are like this? I hope its an issue with mine because i left the car today and came back to find the fuel door open, now i started to worry and hopping that no one played with it

The fuel door should in fact lock when the car is locked. You might check the emergency release to see if it is somehow restricting the locking mechanism.

Sounds like the bushing that the locking pin protrudes through is missing.

This falls out -- for some reason -- and then the fuel door locking pin doesn't have sufficient movement to engage the hole in the fuel door.

Shortly after buying my car (02 Boxster) I found the bushing rolling around in the bottom of the fuel filling basin and not realizing what it was tossed it in the ash tray.

Some time later I discovered the fuel door wasn't locking and started playing with the lock/unlock button on the key module and watching the locking pin and noticed it barely moved. Then I noticed the locking pin was much smaller than the hole it was supposed to fit through and a light bulb went off.

I retrieved the plastic bushing from the ash tray and installed the bushing -- it is keyed -- and then the locking pin moved out enough to securely lock the lid then just as importantly retracted enough I could open the lid to fill the gas tank.

Some years passed and I found the bushing loose again and down in the basin. This time of course I recognized what had happened and reinstalled the bushing again and so far it has not come loose a 3rd time.

Thanks everyone for the advise, took the car this morning to the dealer and they found the locking system in the fuel cover to be faulty, luckily they do have the part in stock and they are working on changing it at the moment.

Good to hear. Certainly don't want your fuel door flapping around when taking a corner. It'd be an extra air brake though
