I agree. Replace it. You bought new...you should get NEW. Not repaired.

I like how dealers always say it isn't a big deal, no one will be able to tell, it's just like new, etc. when they are selling. Then, when you go to trade it in, they rake you on the value because of the paintwork.

I think the OP made the right decision. Kudos to the dealer for being honest, but this should be their problem to settle with the transport company, not something for the new owner to deal with. Knowing my brand new car had a door replaced before I even bought it would drive me crazy, especially on a $100k car.

right decision

I think I would have also walked away. Sure, the car will get dinged etc over time, but who wants to start that way?

A new pristine car should be perfect before you drive it off the lot.

I would personally not even deal with this dealer again. For them to even expect you to accept that car without a discount shows they have no understanding of what a customer deserves. It's like scooping a fly out of your soup, and then handing it back to you.

Clearly business is too good. I would never want to be taken for granted.

Well, the saga is finally over.....

Yesterday I took delivery of the re-ordered 4S Cab, and while I really did not enjoy the nearly 3 month delay, I am VERY happy with my decision to not accept the damaged car (which, btw, was much more than a scrape and and a dent. Given how the car was damaged in the off-loading process, it was not clear that there wouldn't have been damage to the door hinges and body attach points).

I'd like to note that once I made the decision to not accept the damaged car, the support I received from Porsche Corporate and my dealer (Flemington Porsche) was nothing less than outstanding. They worked to expedite a new production build and proactively updated me on progress - ultimately beating the original commitment date by over 1 month). All in all, a positive "customer first" experience.

Thanks again to all who posted with comments/advice.

That's great news. Another happy Porsche owner. Whenever you get a chance, you should post pictures. Congrats and happy to hear you got replacement early.

This is an amazing end to the saga! I'm very happy for you and your experience. Thank you for keeping us updated. It is rare to hear these stories (as so many negative experiences are reported, the good ones go untold).

Lastly, ... PICS!!!

I'm glad it worked out for you. I agree that you need to post pics

Also what, if any, deal did you work out with the dealer for your troubles?

Congrats on the new car, you made the right choice by walking away.
I didnt and end up regretting it and wishing I could go back, somehow I always managed to notice the repaired fender in my new expensive toy, i couldnt live with that and sold my 991 a few months later with a huge loss. The repair was worst than the damaged paint itself, ughh.

You did the right thing- very happy for you. Hope you didn't make any compromises and also got some compensation /freebies from the dealer

Grats. I would've done the same and walk away.
