Price increase -the Porsche way
Price increase -the Porsche way
I ordered a new 991 Carrera S on 28th of October 2012. The base price was about 96000$. I made a down payment with 5000$.
On delivery, 13th of Mars 2013, the price was increased with 2600$. Not a sound of this from my salesman before the delivery.
He refused to hold on to 96000$ and argued I had to pay the new price.
Was this OK ? The company is in California and I am not sure of consumer law in this state.

Have a conversation with the owner of the store.
Dealers make more money on service than sales and pissing off folks is generally not a good way to increase profits.
Read the sales agreement before you have that conversation. It that fails contact a lawyer. Your agreement may have allowed the increase.
Many dealers will hold the price - that practice is generally wise as Porsche customers are brand loyal and as such are a good for future business.

I can't speak to how it is done in Sweden but here in the US we were told that if we ordered in 2012 we'd get the 2012 price no matter when it was delivered. I ordered mine in November with delivery in early March. I kept my 2012 pricing and they made no attempt to increase my price to the 2013 pricing.
I would do exactly as RNL says and talk to the store owner.

I ordered my car mid-December (a few more weeks to go). My sales rep made sure that I knew come January, that a price increase was coming. He was clear in telling me that if I bought or placed an order before the end of the month that I would "lock" in the lower price. When I ordered my car, they printed out the configuration sheet with all the options I selected and the prices, which I signed. He said orders before the increase would have the lower pricing honored.
To me, what you encountered is just plain bad business.

Ditto. My salesman happily told me 'hey, you saved $2600 by ordering when you did' - ordered in October, delivered in January. I'd talk to a manager - that definitely doesn't sound right to get hit with the increase when you already set a price when you ordered.

Im in California and all orders were price protected. Porsche NA is reimbursing the dealer. I just delivered a car yesterday and one last week. Not sure why the dealer would tell you that.
Matter of principle in my opinion - when you order you lock in the price. These custom orders are great for dealers because they don't have to hold inventory and worry about selling.
When I ordered October 1 I was warned if price went up before delivery mine would also. However, car was delivered Friday and while the invoice showed the higher price there was a line item reducing total to old price citing "Price Protection". The window sticker shows the new pricing. To be fair to the dealer they told me about the price protection in early January. I'm assuming Porsche Cars Canada reimbursed the dealer as PCNA did in the US.

A friend of mine ordered a 991 in sep 2012 and was told it would be a november production. In Novembet he was told that there was a delay at the factory and that his car is now going to be a Dec production. in Jan 2013 he was told by the dealer that as his car was a December production, he would have to pay the price increase. he argued with the dealer and emailed Porsche Middle East (the regional Porsche HQ here) explaining his frustration that he was was quoted a price and now has to pay extra when it was not his fault that production got delayed. In the end the dealer phoned him up and said they would waive the increase and claimed credit for it by saying that they absorbed the increase out of goodwill noting that his sales contract allows them to ibcrease the price.
Go back to your dealer on this, they shouldn't increase it without at least letting you know. Thats a simple matter of good customer relations. Email Porsche NA as well to increase pressure.
