Trading new C4S MT for 11 GT3
are you a shrink? +1
It's completely obvious from the way you wrote that the GT3 is the right car for you at this point in time. In a couple of years, you may change your mind; you can simply change cars then. Buying a 911 is clearly not a purely rational and calculated decision, so get the object of your desire!
I track so the decision is easy. GT3.
the C4S may outperform it...but will it be as exciting?
Over time the GT3 may be worth more.
If its a DD's then its the C4S.

I personally went through one iteration over the last few months : 991 C2S -> 997.1 GT3 -> 991 C2S.
I totally fell for the stripper, but it was also my DD and I am regularly doing 500 miles trips in all kinds of weather and a 997 GT3 was not a good fit for that. I probably would not have been back so quickly in a 991 if the GT3 had not broken down though. Sure, the GT3 is a ton of fun, but from personal experience, a C2S -and I assume the same will apply to a C4S- is at least as fast, if not faster unless you are a very talented driver, around the track.
A lot of people say that the 991 is not as 'involving'. For having driven both, I would tend to disagree: the GT3 is more raw and you have a more mechanical feel, but the 991 is an incredibly fast surgical tool and what you lose is sound and vibration, you gain in accuracy. In addition, even with the PSM on in Sport Plus mode, you can throttle steer the 991 and get it sideways if you like it.
In a nutshell, I vote for the C4S... until the 991 GT3 becomes available. I am a fan of driving a manual, but the PDK won me.

Howdy,
I was in the market for a low miles GT3, but I ended up getting seduced by the dealer buying a new 991 MT C4S a couple of weeks ago at a great price. (fully loaded with sports plus, exaust, blipped, etc)
My hope was that the noise and the clutch will be close to the GT'3s
but not... Still, I have to admit the C4S is probably overall, the BEST car I ve ever drove.
But the GT3 is the legend for me and has been a long long long long long time target...
Yesterday, I was encountered with a rare opportunity to trade my new C4S ) almost to the price I paid originally, with a 2011 GT3 ~4K miles CPO'ed, and PPI'ed.
I have a couple of days left to decide; Who.. thinks .. I should do this?
The $$ difference is negligible.
Imagine the GT3 is the king for you and you just DON'T care about hardness
or weather conditions.
On the other hand ,you have the statement of all P-cars designs, the golden section, the intelligent, the AWD C4S, the AI blipper, the amazing interface, the smoothies, the royal feeling air-conditioning your butt , state of the art in technology, what an amazing beauty the C4S... - such a good wife that at the same time can be very naughty...hugging the road like nothing else...
And in the other corner, the stripper (GT3) is there, careful!!...don't listen at her throttle Ulysses! she will devour your brains !!!
what a dilemma huh?
I usually drive my P-cars so In terms of investment, I computed the depreciation as follows:
Used 2011 GT3 Depreciation in 1 year 24K miles: 16K
New 2013 4S Depreciation in 1 year 20K miles : at least 26K (partly because fully loaded)
Any serious advise will be greatly appeciated! --oh and the new upcoming GT3 is absolutely NOT an option for me as it is PDK

I agree regarding the GT3 being more visceral and more "fun". Much more connected to the driver, which may be great form enthusiastic driving but the C4S is a much better daily driver. Depends what's more important to you. I would also buy a used GT3 over the new one. Having a PDK for me defeats the purpose of buying a car that I want to feel more connected to.
This thread makes no sense to me.
The cars are so opposite in function that at 130K a pop for a C4S how can one be uncertain enough to go in another direction in a few weeks ? If it's "the best car " he ever drove then even that description reveals doubt. "Best" is a singular term.
At no point does the Op mentionthat he has even driven the 11 Gt3 and how that felt in comparison . There is no mention of how it would meet his needs as a suitable daily driver . He only mentions it as a "legend" or a "king" but shares not one word of actually driving it .
And why no Gt3 PDK ? The car is not even out yet. . It's not just an issue of "involvement" . It's an issue of at least waiting to see the next car. In fact given that the car is a DD it almost makes sense to have the comfort interior and PDK .
And why no concern on the ride and weather ? The C4S out of all 991 cars is the one most intended for rain and snow . An 11 Gt3 in the snow or rain on a public road used daily is completely opposite scenario.
And why talk about long term deprciation when the Op is dumping a car that is a few weeks old ? In fact even that former 11 Gt3 owner tired of his car enough to part with it.
It goes back to my first sentence .. It makes no sense .
I am not sure if this thread is emotional reasoning , or car fantasy, or simply not placing enough thought into buying a car . Imagine if he actually trades the C4S and doesn't find the Gt3 suitable as his only car . then what ? Trade that too?
Both of these cars are great cars but if he actually bought the Gt3 then that 26K lost on the C4S plus the retail price of that Gt3 (above wholesale value) is expensive enough to at least hedge the risk of any doubts .

If you have the stamina the stripper will thrill you.... but can you live with her long term? She most likely also has a history.
I used to have one and loved her but I've decided to go for the longer term relationship with my 991. Super happy with her! ..... At least until I see the 991 GT3.

I also got out of 997.2 GT3 to 991 C4S, looking for a more long term relationship that I can enjoy daily, and so far have no regrets. C4S is fast & provides enough excitement for me on backroads. If you plan on doing good amount of tracking, GT3 may be a better option, but be ware of "untold history" on GT3s...

Good pont. Why would you want to trade your virgin C4S for a GT3 that may have gone rounds with the football team.

And he never wrote that it was his only car or his daily driver, only that he drives his Porsches. So the DD argument may not matter whatsoever.
Regarding the 991 GT3 with PDK, (I feel I write about this in every post now...) some of us just want a manual gearbox, no matter how good, fast, great and amazing an autobox is.. I don't understand how people do not get this. If you loved sailing more than anything, would you buy a motorboat? No, even if you were offered the best motorboat ever made, you would still get a sailing boat. Same thing manual vs pdk.
To the OP, to me it sounds like you are going for the GT3. The C4S might be a great car, but the GT3 sounds like it's your dream. Life is too short to not persue our dreams.. so if I were you I would make the trade.
answering your questions below. Interesting the fact that you sound quite disturbed or shocked; if this thread doesn't make sense to you you shouldn't be answering it.
anyway to your satisfaction here I am trying to solve your curiosity
1) Cars are opposite you are right but for the $$ the question is which
one you want to get will it be the apple or the orange?
2) To date, I test-drove 3 GT3's one 2007 RS, 2010 and 2011
and they were all 'toxic' I love to drive them every day. Used to drive M3 and 997.2 in the snow (up to a point) Weather is not a concern to me as I can address the snow with my second driver
3) I am looking for an exciting daily driver; I really want to feel engaged
its kind of like massage therapy and not a fantasy. I bought the 4S after I heard the bliper noise! was so great. But later I realized the car makes me sleepy even if I put the sports mode.
4) I was looking for GT3 only. I bought the 4S after the dealer seduced me to the point of $200 above invoice. I mean what would you do buddy? was a no brainer from 127-->111, there was only 100 miles on it from demo driving.
5) I said this is the best car OVERALL I have ever drove yes. It can solve all you problems and be a universal driver. As soon as there is no GT3 in your world. If there is one, then you maybe in trouble
because nothing can satisfy in the way a GT3 does. The dilema is that the 4S is such an amazing car that has the potential to overshadow the feeling of GT3
6) Because I bought at ~invoice, and have no miles on it, 2 weeks later a dealer offers me 2 K below that. Thats not a serious hit. I see it as my unique opportunity to step out of the luxo-smoothy.
7) It is very difficult to find a nice low miles GT3 at the right price.
8) I am not even going to comment on the PDK, (apples and oranges) PDK is simply not for me
9) I am so happy I closed it yesterday!
I would like to thank all of you for contributing to my decision.
