Motorway Light activation
Motorway Light activation
Was at the dealer today and asked if they could activate the two stage motorway light. I got a blank stare and a "huh." We spent about 30 minutes looking through the Porsche computer as it was connected to my 991. The closest we got was a indication that code 553 was activated. The tech deactivated 553 and this evening I went for a ride. According to an aftermarket Porsche Service Information book (p 229) there is a two stage light system for the car's dynamic headlight system. First state increases wattage at 56 mph, state two changes the distribution of the light at 68 mph.
Drove at 78 mph for a while, drifted down to 56 and slowly up again and noticed no change.
Anyone know how to activate this feature called AFS, in the US where Code 553 is installed?

I've been looking for this change in headlight dispersion at night during higher speeds as well - I thought it was already activated and I just couldn't tell it changed (at whatever speed). Would love to hear more if you find out!
DOT/NHTSA are a gaggle of dolts. There are so many beneficial features that are disabled and options not made available, it makes one wonder who's running the shop and the logical justification as to why the features are barred.

Hey, some people wanted bigger government. This is what you get.
Hmmm. Well, I'm really interested in hearing about the outcome of the lighting programming. As for politics, heh, whatever. Convictions are worse enemies of truth than lies; good luck on politics and cognitive dissonance.

Sometimes, if it's a software tweak, it can be reactivated by an independent service shop. I don't think a dealership would want to risk a fine doing this unless you are very close with the Service Manager.
