The only speeding ticket I've received in the past five years was driving the dealership's courtesy car, a turd brown Audi A6. I was speeding with traffic in the middle lane. I actually gave the cop some grief when he handed me the ticket, but he just stood there and when I was done, he responded "you're right, I picked you at random and today is just your day. I'm sorry." He had a very slight smile on his face and asked me if I wanted to vent a little more, or if I was done.

I looked at him. - he's about my age and I thought - wtf, I'm speeding, this is his job, it's beyond his pay grade to do anything about the politicians telling him to go collect some more taxes in this totally bs way. I apologized and we shook hands. I pled down the ticket to a 2 pointer that only stayed on my license for one year.

I don't speed in that area any more.

Was one year on your license part of the pled down?

I admire your honest response to the officer. They really have difficult job and never know who they are stopping, even if a minor speeding violation.

The prosecutor told me that the nature of the pled down ticket was that it would come off my license in one year - providing no other moving violations occurred.

The PO couldn't have been nicer or more polite. I think it helped that my rant wasn't directed at him. Most of the police I've talked to are good people.
